Must Listen Audio Books

One of the top questions we get asked is, "How do you read so many books each month?". The answer: audio books! We discovered audio books a few years ago, and have never looked back.

We love to read a physical book, but can't always find the time to sit down and read. Audio books give us the opportunity to "read" while we do every day activities. Laundry, driving kids to activities, walking the dog, running errands, etc. - all can be done while listening.

Some books don't translate well to audio books, and others we can't even imagine reading any other way. We've learned it all depends on the narrator chosen. Some are extremely talented and you can't even imagine that it's only one person making all those voices.

We've even introduced our kids to the magic of audio books, and they love them too! It's tough enough to get kids to read these days with all the electronic distractions and the perfecting of Fortnite and Tik Tok dances that needs to be done. So we will take them "reading" any way we can.

WHERE WE GET OUR AUDIO BOOKS FROM

There are several places to find audio books, but these are the ones that we use most.

  • Audible - We both have enjoyed having Audible memberships. Usually you can buy a package of 3 for a discounted price on top of your monthly membership price. There is also a great selection of free listens released each month, as well as Audible Originals that are are also free.

  • Libro.fm - We are new to this app, but love it! It helps support local bookstores with each purchase. You can designate a bookstore that you would like to support, or you can let Libro determine where funds should go based on need. We love that we are supporting smaller booksellers and local businesses! There is a membership option too that is also gives you a 30% off discount on any purchases.

  • Libby - This one is supported by your local libraries. You can listen to any book available for free as long as you have a library membership. Just like physical books, you can request and hold audio books. It is super easy to use, and you can join libraries in other major cities sometimes to get access to more books. A great free option!!

Must Listen Audio Books

OUR FAVORITE AUDIO BOOKS

We've both listened to these books, and they all have excellent narrators. There are also several that we can't even imagine being read any other way. We've even spoken to a few friends who read the physical book, and then listened to the same book, and said the audio versions were better because of the narrating experience.  If you have one you've listened to that you feel the same way, we would love to add it to our must listen list!!

  1. My boys and I have been listening to audiobooks together in the car since they were in pre-k/k and are now all teens. We're just finishing up the Trials of Apollo!
