Children's Book Club: 10 Gingerbread Men

Holiday children's books are our absolute favorite! We both have quite the collection and love to display it in our homes during the holidays so that the kids can grab one of their favorites anytime to enjoy during this special time of year. Last year they shared some of their favorite holiday reads, but this year they chose a few new books to add to their collection. At first, I thought they were going to opt for the super hilarious Click, Clack, Ho! Ho! Ho! (which has been on nightly rotation for weeks now!), but they surprised me with their pick for this month's children's book club...

DECEMBER'S SELECTION
The kids chose to share Ten Gingerbread Men as this month's pick.

FROM THE BACK COVER
Follow the adventures of ten friendly little gingerbread men in this fun interactive counting book with bright, appealing illustrations and a surprise pop up ending.

ACTIVITY
What other activity to do during the holidays when reading a book about gingerbread men, than make gingerbread men? :) Grab the kids and make this SUPER EASY recipe!

Ingredients
- 1 box of gingerbread bread mix
- 1/4 cup of water
- 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons of butter (melted)
- Granulated sugar (set aside)

Instructions
1: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
2: Mix all ingredients, minus sugar, in a large bowl. Should turn to the consistency of dough.
3: Grab a large ball of dough and pat down to about 1 inch thick, and place cookie cutter in center to cut. (We used this cookie cutter, and both the patting and the cutting are super easy for kids of all ages to do!)
4: Remove excess dough, place on large cookie sheet. Repeat Step 3 until all dough has been used.
5: Sprinkle cookies with sugar.
6: Bake for approximately 8-10 minutes, or until edges are slightly crisp.
7: Let cool for about 10 minutes, and enjoy!

** A fun extra is to decorate or add numbers and count down the gingerbread men as they are eaten to correlate as a counting activity to the book.**

  1. I love love love gingerbread! We're planning on making cookies this weekend. I might have to pick up the book and pair them together! Great idea!
