Yesterday Carrie Beth shared her goals for the new year. I am so proud/impressed with her! She did so good at maintaining and accomplishing her resolutions for 2016! Each of the last few years I've come up with new resolutions, and each year I fail miserably.
Don't get me wrong, I am a goal driven person. But the last few years
"life" occurs, and I realized that my goals had to evolve. For example, a few years ago when I made it a goal to run a 5k - and win (Honestly what was I even thinking? I hate running!). Well, fast forward halfway into the year and I found myself pregnant with Baby Cute. Could I have still run the 5k and attempted to win? Yes. Did I make that goal a priority? Not even in the least. My new goals evolved in the ways of planning an adorable nursery, a millions ways to coordinate the kids in matching outfits without Mr. Cute taking my clothing shopping privileges away from me, and eating as many doughnuts as humanly possible.
Last year held a lot of ups and a lot of downs. As a family, we learned a lot - both about life and ourselves. We could not have been more excited at the possibility of a new year and starting "fresh". When we were at Reynolds Plantation last month the subject of New Year's goals came up. During the discussion, we decided that rather than base our year off goals we wanted to come up with a word or a theme for our year. The Cutes thought the idea of a theme was so funny, but surprisingly they were really into it.
Mr. Cute and I picked one word, and we let the kids pick one word, and here's what we came up with...
"Consolidate"
This was obviously the word Mr. Cute and I came up with. This word encompasses a lot of things, but ultimately it's our way of saying time to scale back and regroup to be less stressed. So in 2017, our year's theme is to consolidate our stuff, our commitments, and maybe even our waistlines (see donut comment above).
"Adventure"
When the kids came up with this one I was all in. In all honesty, when asked what word The Cutes wanted as a theme for their year Cute replied with, "STAR WARS!" L.C. concurred enthusiastically, but I quickly redirected because trust me, I have enough Star Wars in my life. When I asked what they meant by adventure, Cute responded with,
"Where we can only do something fun on one day, and it can't be where we sit on the couch at home. And you have to only do things that make you smile. "
Well, who can argue with that?
So adventure it is! Now to see where that word takes us...
What would your one word for the year be?
Happy New Year everyone!!
