Seasonal Candy Jar - Happy Everything!

Thank you Happy Everything!™ by Laura Johnson for sponsoring this post!

You guys know we love our Happy Everything!™ pieces and last year I put my calendar to good use ALL year long.

Well, that tradition is continuing and while it brings me a lot of joy to see everything all organized, the kids are much more excited about my newest piece. I got this glass jar with wooden lid just before Christmas and have had so much fun using it to hold candy and other seasonal goodies for each holiday and season so far.

Growing up, my mom always had holiday candy out in a little dish and it's something that I always try to do for my kids to make each holiday a little extra special.  I'll never forget one day years ago I was volunteering at a Valentine's Day party at pre-school and we had conversation hearts to use at one of the centers. One kid looked at me and asked if it was candy. I couldn't believe he didn't know and while it was good that he asked before eating something that might or might not be something to eat I just laughed to myself that my kids would never have to ask that question. We are well versed on each holiday's candy in our house.

This glass jar actually comes in two sizes and mine is the mini size. Don't let the name fool you though because it is actually quite large and holds a ton! I love the Happy Everything! inscription on the top and the gold knob is a great detail. It's been fun to switch out the attachments each season and make it festive all year round!

Here are just a few of the ways that I have used it so far!

I'm still brainstorming for St. Patrick's Day...may gold coins? Easter you better believe it will be filled with jelly beans!

Tips for Porch Decor During Christmas

Christmas porch decorating is one of our favorite ways to prepare for the holidays. When it is time to start decking the halls most of us think about decorating the insides of our homes. Decorating a Christmas tree and hanging stockings are a must, but often times the outdoor spaces don’t get as much love as the indoors. Most often, the inside of our homes only get seen by a handful of people, but a lot of people see the outside…even if they are just your neighbors driving by. These simple tips will help you to add holiday cheer outdoors and make your porch welcoming to any visitors you might have this holiday season!

Treat outdoor spaces like an extension of your home.

When you start to think of your porches, front stoops and patios like another room in your home you will immediately start to treat them like that. Keeping them neat and tidy, sweeping away leaves and decorating them with accessories just like you would indoors will make your home feel welcoming and will make these spaces feel like part of your home.

Add a cozy factor with pillows and blankets.

The weather is chilly this time of year so there is no better way to make a space feel cozy and inviting than with lots of soft pillows and fluffy blankets to wrap up in.

One of our favorite ways to decorate for any holiday is to switch out throw pillows. It’s such a simple way to add some holiday color!

Don’t forget a Christmas tree.

Christmas trees aren’t just for indoors!  There is nothing more magical than twinkling lights on a tree so think about unexpected places you could add trees. We love smaller trees flanking each side of your front doors, a tabletop tree on your outdoor patio table or even a full sized tree like this one in the corner of your porch.

Mood lighting is a must.

Set the tone and light up your space!  Add lights to an outdoor tree or bushes, a spotlight shining on a front door wreath or candles in luminaries and lanterns (we love these red ones!) will instantly make your home feel warm and inviting.

Finish it off with little details.

Put on the finishing touches by adding little details. Put bows on a wreath or add accessories like a nutcracker or a small basket filled with pinecones and berries. Accessories truly make a difference in making your space feel finished. You add these type of things to a room indoors, so don’t forget to add them outside, too!

5 Ways to Update Your Home for Holiday Guests

Thank you to Casabella for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and opinions are our own.

After last year's holiday season was reduced to immediate family only and quarantine's, this year a lot of us seem to be gearing up for a more traditional holiday season filled with extended family and guests. One of the best things about the pandemic was the completion of all those house projects that have been on the to-do list for years. But, even if you weren't one of Home Depot's VIP customers for the last eighteen months, there are still a few quick and easy ways you can update your home before the big guy in the red suit arrives. Bonus - none require power tools or a whole home makeover.

5 WAYS TO UPDATE YOUR HOME FOR HOLIDAY GUESTS

REVAMP THAT ENTRY!
The very first thing guests see when they enter your home is the front entry - so you want it to make a good impression. Our first step is to always declutter this area. It tends to be a dumping ground for all the the things. Before guests arrive, make sure all random shoes, coats and mail are put away.

Next step is to make sure the area is outfitted with items to allow guests to take off their shoes, hand their coats, or put down their purses. A gorgeous way to do this is to have a small area rug in place with a bench or a console table. Maybe even a decorative hooks if you have the space. These small changes and additions can make a big impact on your entry with very little work.

Third step is to make it smell good. The moment your guests enter your home you want it to smell more like holiday deliciousness and less like au de litter box. Adding a yummy smelling candle to your entry table or near by is a great way to set the stage for holiday guests. Our favorites this time of year tend to be warm vanillas, cinnamons, and spicy tree scents.

SPRUCE UP YOUR GUEST BEDROOM
If you have overnight guests this holiday season, make them feel extra welcome by sprucing up their sleeping quarters for their stay. Hanging curtains, adding cozy pillows or a soft rug are all simple things you can do to make the space feel more inviting.

Going the extra mile and adding in soft lighting lamps for reading or a throw to snuggle in are also quick and easy ways to put extra special touches to you guest room before visitors arrive.

We spotted this bedding at Casabella and swooned. We love these soft and cozy the fur throw pillows for winter. And the addition of the tray and custom books is a lovely touch!

UPGRADE YOUR LIGHTING
Lighting is one of the projects that tends to get put on the back burner, but is typically one of the easiest and quickest ways to update a home. It's amazing what the addition of a few table lamps or a stylish floor lamp can do for your living spaces.

Look around and make note of any areas of your home look dark or could use an update. Concentrate on the main locations guests will be first and work out from there so you don't get overwhelmed with replacing all your lighting.

ADD SOME ART
If you are anything like us, we tend to forget our walls. Everything can be beautifully painted, living room furniture can be well placed with perfectly fluffed pillows complete with stylish coffee table accessories, but then our walls are completely bare. That's like ordering CFA milkshake without the whip cream and cherry. Not necessary, but definitely makes it feel complete.

The quick addition of a gorgeous painting, sconces or shelving with frames and/or accessories can do wonders for a room!

COMPLETE THE WORK!
This tip is more of a PSA and friendly reminder to complete those half started house projects. We get it - we totally have project ADHD and tend to start one before another is finished. But having house guests for the holidays is a great time to get motivated and wrap up all those loose ends.

Need to finish hanging that wall paper in the powder room? Call your bestie, hang away, finish with wine.

Need to put that second coat of paint on the dining room? Make it a family affair. Buy some canvases, some paint brushes, and let the kids paint while you paint. Now you have gifts for grandparents. It's a two-for-one.

Need seating for your living room? Great! We love these options from Casabella and they are ready to pick up today.

You get the idea. Get. It. Done.

The last thing you want is cousin Mark's three year old running around with your unhung curtains as a cape.

So, channel your inner Bob Villa and fix up this old house {project}!

Holiday Home Finds from Amazon

If you are a little late to the holiday game this year (ahem, hand raised and waving) then this post is for you. I'll be honest, I was all excited to get all the holiday things up early. But then stuff is still in storage from the great move of 2020, and well...life.

Early on I spotted some amazing things at Amazon, and just ordered some more of these plaid pillow covers I found.

Gotta love that free 2-day Prime shipping.

I shared these finds on social media and realized we never shared them here. Amazon has some great holiday home decor items and everything is still available to be shipped in just a few days. Some of these items also make for great hostess gifts if you happen to be lucky enough to be living a quarantine free Christmas.

Baking With Kids - Made Easy!

This post is in partnership with Christmas Tree Shops andThat! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

'Tis the season of baking! I'm not usually one to enjoy being in the kitchen, but there is just something about the holidays that makes me want to break out all the cookware I received eons ago as wedding gifts and channel my inner Betty Crocker.

My kids? My kids are the complete opposite. One of them loves baking. So much so that this year she requested a baking birthday party. Complete with a gift request list full of baking items. Clearly this is a skill set she gets from her father.

No those of you with young children know that baking with them isn't always easy.

Or clean.

But it's the holidays and 2020 - and fortunately there isn't a wine shortage.

Bring on baking with the kids!

This year I've been able to find some cute and fun ways to make baking easy for me and fun for the kids. All with the help of one of my favorite home decor stores

A girlfriend and I decided while the kids were in school to meet up and do a little Christmas decor shopping. She had never been to Christmas Tree Shops andThat!, and I was shocked! It is one of my favorite go-to places for all things home related. They always have on trend home decor items and gorgeous high quality seasonal decor - but for a price that doesn't break the bank.

Not surprising - when we entered the store we were immediately in love with all of the sparkly baubles and festive holiday necessities.

Also not surprising - we both left with two carts full of purchases and phone calls from our husbands asking if really needed two more flocked trees in the house.

Um, yes. Yes we do.

But the best part was that they had a TON of baking goodies on hand! Not only did andThat! have a great supply of treats and all the ingredients needed (even gluten free options!), they had an amazing assortment of bakeware, holiday dishes, and gifting baskets.

I was going to take the price tags off for photos, but then kept them on because I was shocked at how inexpensive everything was! Under two dollars for a porcelain holiday dish?! Amazing!

My friend and I were able to stock up on all of our holiday baking needs for the entire season - all in one spot!

While also buying an entire collection of bottle brush trees for our mantles.

And some additional mommy baking prep...

If that's not the definition of a Christmas miracle, I don't know what is.

It was so fun shopping for all the things at andThat!, but it was even more fun surprising the kids with the baking goodies set I created to kick off our holiday baking season.

I even found these adorable "Official Cookie Tester" matching fleeces for the girls at andThat!

How cute are they?!

The kids had a ton of fun last week while we were on break putting together the gingerbread houses I found. The Ninja-bread cookies we plan on doing one day this week. I'll share because if you have ninja-loving kid the cookie cutters that came with the kit are so fun!

Now to get crackin' on all the holiday baking gifts. Get excited - neighbors/friends/family! Me in an apron in front of an oven only happens one time a year!

All home decor items, baking items, and treats in this post came from Christmas Tree Shops andThat! To find a location closest to you and learn more about the store - visit here!
