Happy July friends! This is one of our favorite months out of the entire year, and we're kicking it off with one of our favorite posts. June brought us a whole lot of vacation time, but not a whole lot of reading time! We managed to sneak in one book for the month, but friends...it's a GOOD ONE!
WHAT WE READ...
We absolutely adore Kristy Woodson Harvey novels. So when she reached out to us a few months ago to see if we would like a copy of her latest book, The Southern Side of Paradise, we were so excited. It arrived in the throws of year end chaos, so we didn't get a chance to read even a single page. The minute that final bell rang we packed it in our suitcases and knew it would be our first order of beachside business (after ordering a fruity cocktail of course).
FROM THE BACK COVER
With the man of her dreams back in her life and all three of her daughters happy, Ansley Murphy should be content. But she can’t help but feel like it’s all a little too good to be true.
Meanwhile, youngest daughter and actress Emerson, who is recently engaged and has just landed the role of a lifetime, seemingly has the world by the tail. Only, something she can’t quite put her finger on is worrying her—and it has nothing to do with her recent health scare.
When two new women arrive in Peachtree Bluff—one who has the potential to wreck Ansley’s happiness and one who could tear Emerson’s world apart—everything is put in perspective. And after secrets that were never meant to be told come to light, the powerful bond between the Murphy sisters and their mother comes crumbling down, testing their devotion to each other and forcing them to evaluate the meaning of family.
WHY WE LOVED IT
The ladies of Peachtree Bluff have stolen our hearts over the last few years. The Southern Side of Paradise shares the story of the youngest of the Murphy sisters, Emerson. As you read, you can't help but fall in love more and more with this sweet family. They've had their fair share of tragedies, but have learned to rise above and thrive with grace, humor, and flair.
The Southern Side of Paradise was an excellent ending to the Peachtree Bluff series. It did everything a good book should do - we laughed, we cried, we cheered, and we laughed some more.
We enjoy books (and especially series) the most when they tend to wrap up all the details in the end. Harvey does this in such a graceful way. We didn't feel like in the last chapter a bunch of details were rushed so that we would get closure. It was a gradual conclusion to the ladies of Peachtree Bluff's story, and along the way were given a insight to some of the secondary characters we'd also grown to love, beautiful imagery of the coastal home town we now want to move to, and swoon worthy home decor references that have us wishing Ansley would come decorate our own homes.
The Southern Side of Paradise gave us all the feels. And while we are sad the Peachtree Bluff tale has come to and end, we look forward to what Kristy has in store for us next!
What should we read next? We need something good for some travel coming up!
