Preppy Style Inspo (Home & Gifts)

Preppy and pink has taken over 2023 style in a big way (But really, has either ever been out of style?!). Whether we can thank the reemergence of ‘90’s fashion, or all things Barbie Movie, preppy style has taken over!

Yeti just released the Power Pink line. Pinterest is filled with pink bedecked rooms. And teen boys everywhere are channeling their inner Zach Morris complete with preppy swimsuits turned shorts down the school halls.

Our tweens and teens have totally hopped on board this trend, and one is very into making lists of things she loves for ideas, and came up with these two inspo boards.

We love seeing these trends through our kids eyes (and are simultaneously impressed that we’d actually live in a room they virtually decorated).

We can’t wait to see what trend emerges next amongst our younger Magnolias.

And share with them how we wore it first. 😆

ARE YOUR KIDS INTO ALL THINGS PREPPY AND PINK? WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE RECYCLED TREND?

Fashion Fix: Timely Style with Grayton Watches

I love a good accessory. Nothing compliments an outfit more. The right accessories can transform a simple t-shirt into the most elegant evening attire. If I had to pick one accessory to wear above all others, it would be a watch. Watches are my favorite and I've grown quite the collection over the years. They are so many fun options, and I love that it's a functional accessory that will always be in style.

I'm always on the hunt for a new one, and my new favorite is this nautical inspired one from Grayton Watches.

When I was introduced to Grayton Watches I instantly fell in love with several of their pieces. The traditional style and classic elegant faces are beautiful. As a lover of anything with a preppy or coastal feel, I was drawn to their fabric strap options.

I wanted something a little more casual and fun for summer, and thought this one would be perfect.

I love the navy face and striped band with the rose gold touches. The quality is superb and I love it is an automatic watch and I won't have to replace the battery ever.

Simply walking will keep it wound and in perfect time. Plus I absolutely love the look of the open back.

The watch has definitely been fun to wear, and has become a go-to for any event. It's been comfortable to wear from baseball games to playing with the kids in the yard to evening nights out.

I've received tons of compliments on it and even Mr. Cute has borrowed it a time or two.

It's the men's Fabric Strap Watch so it suits us both. I went back and forth between this one and the unisex version, but love larger faced watches so decided on the men's one. I think it's fun, and maybe one day soon I'll surprise Mr. Cute one of his own so I won't have to share. ;)

Speaking of gifts, the watch surprised me when it came wrapped so well.

The packaging was just as elegant as the watch, and if gifting one to someone I love that it's already ready to present nicely even if it has to be shipped for a someone special out of town.

I am definitely a new fan, and will be keeping my eye out on Grayton if I want to add a new watch to my ever growing accessory collection.

I've been so excited about my new watch, that my lovely new friends at Grayton Watches have given me a discount code to share with you in case you want to add one to your collection too. Use code Flcom-Grayton15%-TheMagnoliaMamas for 15% off your entire purchase.

Fashion Fix: Dressing for the Derby

In just a few weeks the Mr. and I are going to be heading to Louisville, Kentucky to attend the Kentucky Derby.

I could not be more excited about this trip.  It's like this sporting event was meant for me!   With its rich traditions deeply rooted here in the south, its every preppy girls dream!  From donning beautiful spring pretty dresses, topping it off with a stylish hat and sipping on mint juleps all day, I can already tell I'm going to love pretty much everything about the derby.

I've done a lot of reading and research about the derby and was surprised to find that the Kentucky Derby is the longest running sports event in the United States. Over the years, many traditions have formed, but dressing for the derby has stayed the same.  Beautiful spring dress in pretty pastels, florals or bright colors are sure to make you derby ready and no matter what style you choose, something preppy to express your inner southern belle is a must.

Quite possibly the most popular tradition associated with the derby are the hats!  Wearing a hat at the derby is supposed to bring good luck so that is how that tradition began! High fashion, style and elegance can be seen all over Churchill Downs.  I'm probably most excited about this part of getting dressed up for the derby.  When I was a little girl I LOVED wearing hats. I would always look forward to Easter so I could wear an Easter hat to church and sadly this is a tradition that has kind of died.  I have the fondest memories of my grandmother helping me embellish my Easter hats with silk  flowers.

The verdict is still out on just what I'm going to wear, but thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite combinations I've found so far.  I know lots of people attend derby parties so hopefully this will help give everyone some inspiration.  You can see my Pinterest board HERE with lots of fun ideas!

Loft has this pretty one shoulder eyelet dress in pink fizz and it so feminine. I just love the ruffle at the top and the scalloped hemline!

I thought it would be perfect paired with THIS blush pink hat.  That bow is so pretty and preppy and I like the idea of a monochromatic ensemble in different shades of pink.

There is nothing quite as classic as a white dress and this Lilly Pulitzer lace one with fringe detail at the waste makes it unique.

Navy and white is one of my favorite color combinations so I think this hat would go well with the white dress and be the perfect classic style for the derby.
Vineyard Vines is actually the official clothing sponsor of the derby and they have such cute things for the big day.  I just love everything about this Run for the Roses dress paired with the straw hat and seersucker bow.

Lastly, this lovely Lilly Pulitzer print is so bright and fun for spring. The colors are so vibrant and I love the pink detail on the neckline.

Paired with a simple hot pink hat, I think this would be a darling derby day outfit!

And let's not forget about the guys!  The Mr. isn't usually one to dress overly preppy, so I'm super pumped to see him in seersucker and a bowtie.  How handsome would any guy be in some of these?!

Click picture to see more details.

I'd love to know...are any of you attending the Derby this year?  Anyone going to a Derby party?

Patriotic Perfection {Preppy & Personalized}

Happy Thursday, friends!  So we know we just celebrated Memorial Day, but we are all about holidays around here and the next one is a big one.  Fireworks, BBQ's, and red, white and blue plastered everywhere?  What is not to love about the 4th of July?!?

We're already starting to think about outfits, accessories and decor we'll be wanting for the 4th of July and our friends and Preppy & Personalized never disappoint with their adorable selection of preppy goodness!  .

While we love theme wear and decorating for holidays, we also love items that can be used beyond a specific holiday and Preppy & Personalized does just that!  They offer items that can be used all summer long so you get the most bang for your buck.  We wanted to share some of our favorite items and some things we have our eyes on for Independence Day!

Chances are you'll be near the water for the 4th of July. Whether it's the pool, beach or lake, you'll be needing a towel and turkish towels are all the rage this summer.

They are really lightweight (so they don't take up a ton of room in your bag), yet absorbent and also dry very quickly, making them the perfect choice for summer swimming.  We can't think of anything cuter than this red and navy option with a monogram!

Every mama needs a good "mom bag." You know, one big enough to hold everything you might possibly need for an outing with little ones, but something cute and stylish enough to make you feel put together? Well friends, we have found the perfect one!

This monogrammed seersucker shoulder bag is about as preppy as they come and the colors are perfect for the 4th of July!  Jen actually has this bag (see below) and loves it!  She's a sucker for all things seersucker!

And, as you can see, it will work beyond the 4th of July, too!  While it looks great with red, white and blue, it also pairs perfectly with one of our favorites...PINK!

There is nothing more American than baseball and we think these personalized baller jerseys are the cutest!  They are great for the 4th and I'm picturing my girls in these when their brother starts baseball in the fall!

It isn't only preppy things we love, but also all things nautical.  Boo-Boo's bedroom is even a nautical theme and there is something about sailboats that speaks to us.  This classic duffel or backpack could be perfect all summer long...from camps and playdates to sleepovers and vacations, we see all sorts of uses for these pieces!

Those long and hot days of summer can be brutal and there are days we don't want to come out of our swimsuits.  However, when we do need to be dressed we want something comfy and cool and our kids feel the same way.  These personalized ribbed tanks are the perfect option for summer.  They are casual and keep kids cool all summer long, but they are super cute and look nicer than just throwing on a t-shirt.  Plus, they come in patriotic colors, so they are perfect for the 4th!

Don't worry, we're not forgetting about the mamas!  We like this flair tank option for us!

What are you looking forward to most about the 4th of July?

Friday Favorites

Woo Hoo!!!  So happy today is FRIDAY!!!  I'm not going to lie, getting back into the swing of things this week after Spring Break has been a bit tough so the weekend is very welcomed.  Today we are linking up with some of our favorite bloggers for Friday Favorites!  I have lots of fun random favorites to share today.

~ONE~
I usually buy 1-2 new pairs of shorts each spring/summer and I just got a pair that I am in LOVE with.  It's no secret that we love leopard so when I saw these leopard shorts they caught my eye right away.

J. Crew shorts are my favorite because they fit so well and their Factory site usually has some great deals.  Well when these shorts went on sale for less than $30 I knew I had to order right away.  They are made with a basketweave fabric that looks so nice and also helps them from wrinkling.  They are definitely some of my new favorite shorts!

~TWO~
Last week on Spring Break, the Mr. and I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Masters for a few days.  It's my 3rd or 4th year going and I just LOVE it.  The event itself is pretty amazing, the people are amazing, the grounds are amazing and I love getting to hang out with my favorite guy for uninterrupted amounts of time since no phones are allowed inside!

~THREE~
Speaking of spring break...while we were at the Masters, the kiddos spent the week in Florida with their grandparents.  I drove them down and on the ride back I was solo for the road trip meaning I got to listen to anything I wanted.  I threw it WAY back and listen to one of my all-time FAVORITE CD's, No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom.  I used to love No Doubt and this CD.  Isn't it funny how you can not hear a song for years and years and still be able to sing every word when you hear it?  That is how I was for the entire CD and I was singing the whole way home. I still love Gwen Stefani and her new songs, too!

~FOUR~
Right after Spring Break we got to celebrate this little lady's real birthday.  One of my favorite times from this week was getting to visit her class during her school birthday celebration.  I took in cookies for her class and they all sang happy birthday after lunch.  She loved sporting that birthday crown all day!

~FIVE~
Some of you may remember that we shared some of our spring favorites from our friends at Preppy & Personalized a few months ago.  They have the cutest products and not too long ago I ordered this coordinates bar necklace. I'd been wanting a shorter style gold necklace to wear and loved that this one could be personalized with the coordinates of a place special to me.

I love the length of the chain and it adds just a little when I don't want to wear a bigger statement necklace.  This is just very dainty and personal.  I think it would make a wonderful gift (maybe Mother's Day) and I'm sure it would become their favorites just like it became mine!

~Six~
In case you missed it yesterday, I shared my love of Matilda Jane with y'all.  It is one of my very favorite clothing brands for my girls.  Yesterday I had a trunk show at my house and it was SO much fun to be there with my friends checking out the latest release.  So many adorable things!!!  If you want to order on my show, there is still time.  Directions on how to place an online order are HERE.

~Seven~
Last, but not least I want to share my favorite sight as I walk out my front door each day.  A bird had been building a nest on top of one of the columns on our front porch. I watched over the past few weeks as the nest grew, but I never actually saw the bird.  This week though, the mama Robin has been sitting on her nest.  She's usually there early in the mornings and in the evenings and during the night.  I love peeking during the day to see if she is there and the kids have gotten a kick out of it, too!  I can't wait to hear those baby birds chirping. :-)  This obviously isn't a great picture, but I didn't want to get too close and scare her away.  You can see the outline of her head and beak sitting on the nest though!

Getting Prepped for Spring Break

We know we just wrapped up our Winter Break, but this week already has us day dreaming about our next big break. Now that we've gotten all the cold weather fun out of our system, we are setting our sights on Spring Break adventures filled with fun in the sun, warm ocean breezes, yummy fruity cocktails and ending with spectacular golf.

With both Spring Break and The Masters falling in the same week, we've decided it will be the preppy mom's dream week (both hands raised and waving!). We've already begun planning our perfectly preppy attire and putting our favorite monogrammers on standby.

Here are some of our favorite preppy (and personalized) essentials that we can't wait to pack in our bags for Spring Break!

Palm Beach Paisley Resort Collection
If there is one thing we just love, it's dressing our kids in coordinating outfits.  When we head to the beach for Spring Break (and this summer) one thing that is always in our bags are bright colored outfits that are so sweet and so southern.  This paisley resort collection has something for everyone and is so, so sweet for spring and summer.  That bubble is just presh and the halter with the orange ruffle accents is too cute!

An added bonus is being able to match the kids in coordinating resort tunics with us mamas.  My girls would just LOVE to match me.  Might have to order this!

Ruffle Rash Guard 2-Peice Set
No one likes sunburnt shoulders, but it seems that no matter how much sunscreen we apply to our little ones, those shoulders always ended up burnt.  The perfect solution is to just cover them right up.  These adorable ruffle rash guard swimsuit sets are made with sun protectant fabrics and are just perfect for any little girl.  They come in 7 different colors and our hardest decision has got to be deciding which colors we want.  These will be a must have for our long days in the sun!

Monogrammed Striped Turkish Towels
One thing we struggle most with when heading to the pool or beach over Spring Break, or really any day for that matter, are the giant bags we have to carry to accommodate all of our things.  From sunscreens to snack and towels to toys, even the biggest of big bags sometimes aren't large enough.  That's why when we first learned about these turkish towels we were instantly intrigued.  They are super thin, yet absorbent towels made from 100% Turkish cotton.  AND, they are super cute and super preppy with the stripes and monograms.  These would be a dream to be able to fold up and fit easily into our bags, making the load we have to carry so much more manageable.

Monogrammed Seersucker Shoulder Bag
Ok, really they had us a seersucker, but throw a monogram on that bad boy and we are head over heels for this shoulder bag.  It's no secret we love our seersucker and we both obviously are still rocking the mom bag.  The bigger the better in our case! Especially when we are traveling for Spring Break, but really for everyday we need a cute and stylish bag to carry everything from iPads to sippy cups, plus all of our own things, too.  This shoulder bag also has a coordinating weekender bag available that would be absolutely perfect to pack for a quick trip!

Last, but certainly not least, let's not forget about a cute koozie to keep your beverages cool.  These would be so simple to throw in your bag for a Spring Break trip and are a must-have in our eyes.  Whether it's sparkling water by the pool or a cold one on the beach, no Spring Break would be complete without a little something we like to call "mama's water" and something to make you look stylish while you sip away in the sun.  Psst...We also think these would be fantastic teacher gifts!  What better way to show a special teacher a little love than to slip her one of these before her Spring Break getaway!

What are some of your favorite Spring Break essentials?
