Ginger Grapefruit Bourbon Sour Recipe

Happy Friday friends! We have made it - the end of the second week of school. Honestly, a day or two ago, we didn't even think we would make it this far. We are on the struggle bus each morning trying to find the balance again of getting up early and being up late for activities. Not to mention that little word "delta" we keep hearing.

But we aren't even going to talk about that.

We have something a little southern we're mixing up today, and thought we'd share! August weather is not for the weak in the south. And neither are our cocktails. But this one is a little bit sweet and a little bit sour. Today we are mixing one of our favorite bourbons with one of our favorite citrus juices - Grapefruit Juice! Do you crave citrus when it's hot out too?

We've got dinner plans tonight with friends, and thought this Grapefruit Ginger Bourbon Sour would be the perfect cocktail to share.

Plus, consuming is kind of like doing our part. It has all that vitamin C and all, right? ;)

GRAPEFRUIT GINGER BOURBON SOUR

Ingredients
- 1 Bottle of Indian River Grapefruit Juice (it is THE BEST!!!)
- 1 can of ginger beer
- 2 cups of bourbon
- 1/2 cup of lime juice
- optional: one grapefruit for garnish
**add water or ice as needed

Directions
1: In a large pitcher pour grapefruit juice, ginger beer, and lime juice. Stir.
2: Add in bourbon. Stir.
3: Garnish as desired.
4: Serve and enjoy!

Bourbon Black Raspberry Cocktail Recipe

This post is sponsored by Sparkling ICE but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Fall, tailgating, and all things football have been happening around here for almost two months now. We aren't mad about it one bit. This is the South and football season is the true season Southerners wait all year long for. And if things keep going the way it looks like for some of our favorite teams, we'll be enjoying football season well into the new year.

And...

What goes better with Fall, tailgating, and football than a nice crisp cocktail? Better yet...a bourbon cocktail. Because, again, this is the South. Is a cocktail really a cocktail if bourbon isn't included?

A few weeks ago we came up with this Bourbon Black Raspberry Cocktail recipe, and it's been on game day repeat ever since. It has just enough mixture of crisp and sweet, with that infamous bourbon bite. It also is pretty low on the calories and sugar thanks to one of our favorite multi-purpose ingredients.

We love Sparking Ice sparkling waters, and drink at least one every single day. They come in tons of great flavors so there is always something for everyone, and they are naturally flavored with zero sugars added to them. Added to our carts lately has been this pink variety pack

Not only does it contain some of our favorite Sparkling Ice waters, we also have found they are a great go-to when it comes to crafting cocktails. Their flavorful taste has allowed us to eliminate the need to blend fresh fruits or grab a ton of different mixers. One Sparkling Ice water makes up for the same great taste for many drink recipes. Such a great bar hack, especially when we are tailgating and we don't want to pack our entire bar to set-up outside of our car.

Give this recipe a quick try and see if you become a Sparkling Ice cocktail convert!

Bourbon Black Raspberry Cocktail Recipe

Serves: 2
Prep Time: 2 mins
Total Time: 2 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 Bottle of Black Raspberry Sparkling Ice water
  • 4 oz. of Bourbon (unless you're feeling a little more Southern, which in that case make it 6oz.)
  • 1 oz. of lime juice
  • optional garnish: sugar for rim, lime slices or raspberries

Instructions

  • Measure and pour bourbon over ice cubes in a glass.
  • Add 1/3 of the bottle of Black Raspberry Sparkling Ice to the bourbon.
  • Stir slightly, garnish, and enjoy!

Quick and easy cocktail drink for the win!

The Bourbon Black Raspberry Cocktail isn't the only drink you can mix with Sparkling Ice waters. The Sparkling Ice website actually has a ton of great drink recipes! We've loved trying JJ's Tropical Fizz, and the Peach Nectarine Shandy.

We made some low calorie holiday cocktails that were a huge hit amongst holiday guests, and Carrie Beth also has an awesome Sparkling Spiked Peach Tea that is out of this world - both using Sparkling Ice waters.

Check out the Sparkling Ice locator to see where you can find some to make your own tailgate worthy cocktails!

Cheers friends!

Host a Moscow Mule Bar

It's nearly Christmas!!! Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and today our holiday festivities begin. We're hosting Christmas this year and I'm so excited about staying in my house all day! It hasn't ever happened for Christmas before so I am pumped. I have a few fun things up my sleeve, but one of them is having a Moscow Mule Bar set up for our guests.

I have yet to meet someone who doesn't like some variation of this popular drink. I thought it would be fun to let everyone make their own and try out new combinations or share favorite recipes with one another.

Our love affair with the Moscow Mule began years ago, and we've shared a recipe or two ourselves.

The Moscow Mule Bar itself is super easy to create, and with the drink only consisting of a few ingredients it's a fairly easy entertaining station to coordinate and set up.  I am chatting about all the details and sharing a new recipe we haven't shared over on Savvy Sassy Moms. So hop over and see how you can set up a Moscow Mule Bar for your guests this holiday season!

Happy drinking friends!

Rock Candy Cocktails for Spring Entertaining

Happy Monday! We are going to keep today as bright and cheery as possible because let's be honest -   Monday.

We have a few fun events coming up and I wanted to do something a little different and unique for a drink. Spring is so fun for entertaining and wanted the drink to be just as colorful as the colors around us.  I had been to an event a long time ago where they used rock candy to garnish their cocktails, and I used that as a little inspiration for our latest cocktail concoction.

Rock candy totally reminds me of when I was a kid, and when I showed it to my own children they thought it was the funniest lollipop they had ever seen.

After mixing the candy with one of our favorite stand alone drinks (mmm, champs!), I realized the rock candy was actually perfect on several levels as a drink garnish.

The candy doubles as both a flavorful addition as well as an adorable stirrer.

I loved how colorful and fun each of the drinks came out, and while I went for the rainbow effect for spring, you can use a single color to coordinate with any event you have planned.

The multi colored rock candy were each flavored differently so each cocktail was a little surprise when you sipped it. Again if you are looking for consistency I would pick one single color.

Make the hop over to Savvy Sassy Moms to check out the recipes, and all the ways we used rock candy in these fun cocktails for spring entertaining.

Cocktail Confessions: Peppermint White Russian

I love everything about the holidays! It's a full month of family, friends, parties, yummy food...

... and delicious cocktails!

This past weekend, I made this festive Peppermint White Russian cocktail for a small dinner party we hosted. I set up a little photo booth with my instant camera, and crafted a smaller shot version of the drink. It and the Photo Booth were big hits.

Those pictures will never see this blog.
#blackmailworthy

The drink though might be on repeat for the rest of the holiday season.

Something about peppermint just screams Christmas to me, and White Russians remind me of my grandmother growing up. Here's my cocktail confession for the day...

Grandma would always make herself a little Kahlua and milk, or White Russian when she entertained. I remember when I first tasted one of her drinks it reminded me of a chocolate milk with a little bit of a kick. Who doesn't like that?

Well I liked them so much that when I was in college and we happened to come across an establishment that one might be listening to some good music, dancing and enjoying a refreshing beverage or two - you work up such a thirst dancing - the words White Russian would just pop out of my mouth.

(Sorry dad, I swear it only happened like once. Maybe twice.)

So every time I take a little sip of one it reminds me a little of my youth, and some sweet memories.

Which totally wasn't that long ago since I'm twenty-two and all.
#forevertwentytwo #notold
#iwroteinhashtagsothatmakesmeyoung

So remind yourself of my youth too, and make this festive drink this holiday season.

Your holiday guests and future college selves will be thanking you everywhere.
