Cocktail Confessions: 7 Refreshing Poptails

Last summer we discovered the "poptail", and this genius little invention is still a favorite cocktail of ours this summer.

Popsicles just make everything just a little bit happier. Popsicles in an adult beverage or two make mommy a whole lot happier. ;)

From wine poptails to bourbon poptails we've tried them all! And we've rounded up all of our favorites to share with our friends over on Savvy Sassy Moms

These 7 Poptail Recipes are what summer is all about...fruity, fun, and oh so cool. Give them a try and let us know which one is your favorite!

Now this post is making us all sorts of thirsty...
Off to beat this southern heat with a little popsicle yum!

Cheers!

Cocktail Confessions: Pomegranate Poptails

A few weeks ago anyone that follows us on Instagram might have remembered seeing Jen's picture of her Poptail.  What is a poptail you ask?  Simple.  Wine + Popsicle = Poptail.  Her kids wanted popsicles, she wanted wine, and this delicious treat was created.

Now in full disclosure, we did not create the original poptail, but we certainly are having fun getting creative in our poptail making.  I couldn't believe I had never heard of or tried a poptail before seeing her picture so I decided we needed to change that ASAP.  I mean, what else do you do when it still feels like summer around here?!

I invited Jen and her family over for dinner last weekend so we could say cheers to the weekend with poptails in hand.  Jen and I don't discriminate when it comes to wine, but being the besties that we are, we have a similar taste in wine and there are many times we have bonded over a bottle of Riesling.  I picked up our favorite Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling and a box of Outshine Pomegranate Popsicles at the store and was ready for them to arrive on Friday evening.

When the kids saw us pulling out the popsicles, of course we had to share the sweet treats with them (the popsicles, not the wine). They were shocked though because when Blondie saw Jen plop hers down in the wine she couldn't believe her eyes and questioned, "JEN!!! What are you doing!?!?" We, the mamas, just laughed.

It was Friday night, the dads were about to take over kid watching duty and the mamas were ready to enjoy ourselves on the porch.  And enjoy we did.

I have to say, as a novice to the poptail I was quite impressed.  The more the popsicles melts the better it got because the flavors mixed, but it isn't overly sweet like I was expecting. It's just enough to change the flavor of the wine a bit and it looked pretty, too.  I'm excited to try different combinations and I can see this newfound treat quickly becoming our new favorite.

You know what today is don't you?  Friday!  The perfect day for a poptail so mamas, be sure to make your kids and yourself happy this evening.  Popsicles for them, popsicles for you.  Stop by the store for your favorite wine, your favorite popsicles and create your own poptail this evening.  Just be sure to share your delicious combinations with us.  Cheers!

Celebrate The End Of Summer In Style {Laurie Louis Designs}

Summer break might be gone, but here in the south Mother Nature is making summer live on. It doesn't really cool off here until November (October if we are lucky), so we swim until at least the end of September. With Labor Day weekend last weekend, we wanted to plan a party to say goodbye to summer.  However, with school already in session and sports in full swing, we wanted it to be as stress-free as possible.  We made our way up to the lake for a day full of boating, swimming and as much relaxing as you can get with 6 kids.

Here's our 5 tips for hosting a stress-free end of summer party so you can say goodbye to summer with a bang!

1. Pick a theme - Luckily we always have our pieces from Laure Louis Designs on hand. They make putting together a theme for any party so easy.  Just switch out the different designs in the lucite tray and ice bucket to coordinate with the menu tents or coasters for any occasion.  We also like to use the pieces for something that you wouldn't expect...like the ice bucket to serve popsicles!

2. Scour the clearance rack - Summer stuff usually clearances out this time of year. Anything you might need to complete your summer theme can be found really inexpensively!  From pool floats and squirt toys to yard games and more, stock up now!

3. Keep it outside - One of our biggest tips when hosting a party, especially with kids, is to keep everyone outside as much as possible. No one wants their house a mess and chances are if you clean top to bottom preparing for guests is just going to get ruined right away.  It's still warm here so enjoy it! Doesn't matter if you are at the lake, at the pool, or just at home.  Everyone outside is our rule!

4. Easy food is key - Keep it store bought. We have always said no one will know (or care) if what you serve is homemade. Summer food is easy so keep it simple.  If you are doing a meal hot dogs and  hamburgers are easy and if you just want snacks chips and popsicles are perfect and sure to be a crowd pleaser.

5. Fun drinks - We believe every reason to gather should be a reason to raise a glass.  Having fun drinks for the adults is a must and one of our favorites to sip on during the summertime are poptails. They are super simple to make and surprisingly so tasty.  Simply pour you favorite white wine and pop in a popsicle.  Really, that's it!  We usually prefer sweeter wines, but in this event we tend to use something a little dryer like a Noble Vines Chardonnay.  As the popsicles start to melt it sweetens the wine!

Porches & Poptails with Dixie Delights

We have had so much fun with our little blogging adventure and one of the best parts is connecting with so many amazingly talented bloggers.  One that we absolutely adore is Amanda from Dixie Delights.

We fell in love with her sweet southern charm and her love for all things Lilly Pulitzer.  We were so honored and thrilled when she asked if we would like to guest post on her blog this week.

Head on over to her site to check it out and show us some love over there.  We're sharing sneak peeks of our porches and our favorite poptail recipes.  Click HERE to read!

Tips for being a Classroom Volunteer

Happy Monday, friends!  We hope you all had a great weekend.  Jen and I got together Friday night to kick of the weekend with our favorite Poptails. Talk about a fun night with a fun drink!  More on this deliciousness to come in the near future.

Lucky Jen is on Fall Break this week so hopefully we can all live vicariously through her on Instagram.  For me though, I'm ready to kick off another the week and some of that time will be spent in my kids' classrooms volunteering.  It's something I just can't say no to!

Because it is something we do so often, we have some tips and tricks and just general words of wisdom to share with all of you who might be thinking about volunteering in your kids' classrooms.  Check out our 6 tips over on Savvy Sassy Moms.  Click HERE to read.

Cocktail Confessions: Bourbon Peach Poptail

Happy Wednesday sweet friends!

We've made it halfway through the week, and some weeks that just deserves a celebration. The poptail Cocktail Confession has made it's way around once already, but we just can't seem to quit it.

Sometimes some things are so good they are worth repeating. Like this yummy little confection...

We shared this fun cocktail earlier this Fall when we discussed all things porches and poptails with our friend Amanda, but just in case you missed it...

BOURBON PEACH POPTAIL
Makes 1 serving

Ingredients
- 3oz of bourbon
- 1 tbsp of lemon juice
- 1 peach flavored popsicle
- a splash of water or ice if desired

Instructions
- Mix bourbon and lemon juice in a lowball glass
- Add peach popsicle. Let settle  and melt for a minute or two.
- Serve and enjoy!

It's still warm enough here in the Deep South to enjoy a little poptail here and there. Trust us - this one has just enough "bite" to warm you up straight through the Winter!

Cheers!
