Friday Favorites: Red, White & Blue Edition

Happy Friday friends! We're so glad we have this little blog to tell us what day it is because all the days are starting to blur together. #summermode

But Friday means the hubbies get to come home and join in the fun, so that makes it even more exciting. Next week is a short week with July 4th right in the middle of it and we have big plans. We can't wait to celebrate our favorite holiday! So today's Friday Favorites is all about the Red, White, and Blue...with a little real life mixed in.

We like to wear a lot of red, white and blue throughout the summer regardless if it's the holiday or not. Carrie Beth sported this super soft tee that she has me convinced we all need. She sized up so she could knot it for a little extra something added to her casual summer look.

I've been loving this blue polka dotted halter lately. I ordered it just before my beach trip last week and I've already snuck it rotations a few times. It's super lightweight so perfect for summer, and the tie neck is adjustable. It also has a hi-lo hemline so you can wear it out or tucked in and it still look fabulous.

It comes in a ton of colors, and I'm already thinking of ordering the pink one! But for the 4th I thought I would trade out my pink accessories for red ones, and it would be the perfect outfit to celebrate!

This blue gingham top has been on repeat since the spring. It's under $20 and is so loose and comfy. Again, just a switch of accessories from pink to red and I am 4th of July ready.

These navy striped pull-on shorts have been one of my favorite pairs of shorts to wear this summer!

They are so comfortable, and have lots of stretch for all that 4th of July cookout consumption. They are also currently under $20!

Last year I got this adorable little "Boom y'all!" tee from our friend Kathryn, and plan on wearing over the course of the 4th! She makes the best tees, and they are so comfy

I threw it on right after we got off the boat last year, just in time for fireworks. The patriotic themed can huggers were a fun little added touch.

It was so cute no one had time to notice my boat hair.

This year I couldn't resist and added a new piece of theme wear into the mix. This minute I spotted this 4th of July romper I knew I couldn't leave it behind!

(I mentioned this is my favorite holiday, right? I'm allowed to go a little theme wear crazy. Right?!)

I plan on wearing the patriotic romper as a cover-up or as post boat loungewear, but either way I'll be rocking it for sure.

When I grabbed that I also grabbed that super cute red gingham bikini for L.C. and the Stars and Stripes tankini is from a few years ago, but is now getting passed down to B.C. There are so many cute patriotic themed swimsuits this year it was hard to resist and just get one!

One of my favorite moments of the week had nothing to do with two of the three colors, but oh so deserves mentioning.

Mr. Cute and I had the chance to go to the Atlanta United soccer game over the weekend for a date and it was SO MUCH FUN! I gladly sported my RED, black and gold.

I will write more about this later, but if you are in the Atlanta area definitely check out a game. Even if you aren't a huge soccer fan, I think the atmosphere and excitement will change your mind.

Another favorite of mine this week is knocking out one of the projects off of my to-do list. I sat down at the beginning of summer and wrote down a ton of small projects to knock out around the house that I wanted to accomplish before schools starts back in a few weeks (yes, I said weeks because we are crazy here in the south and start back at the end of July!).

Getting new office lighting was at the top of the list. We've slowly but surely been updating our office to accommodate everyone in our family. The lighting in the office though was too small and didn't put off enough light.

I kind of had an idea of what I wanted and once it was installed I realized we should have done this a long time ago! It makes such a difference and now when we are working or doing homework - especially in those darker winter months - we can actually see!

Now to knock out the rug portion of my to-do list in here. Any suggestions??

That wraps up my favorites for the week! Happy weekend friends!

Playroom Re-do {Inspiration}

We have a pretty great playroom.  When we were building our house 5 years ago I planned for this room to be on the main floor, off the kitchen and big!  I wanted places to have play stations (arts/crafts, dress up, books, dolls, train table/cars, kitchen, movie area) and a closet for storage.

The kids used the playroom for a long time, but that room has become more and more vacant in the past year or so.  They will go in there to watch movies (sometimes) or if we have friends with younger kids over, but that is about it.  Sadly, I knew they were kind of over it and done with all the toys, but a part of me wanted to hang on to that stage a little while longer.  I mean, my youngest is almost 7 and that still seems little to me, but all he cares about is playing with the iPad or playing sports so all of those toys were just collecting dust.

I've been thinking about how to transform that room so that it would be functional for our kids that just won't stop getting older.  I have done what I always do when I get ready for any home project...I start scouring Pinterest and taking in as many ideas as I can.  I want to turn our playroom into more of a Tween hangout space.  I have several things I really want to include...

Like a homework station/craft area...

Chalk board wall...

...and I'm also hoping for a lounge space, and room for a few of the toys that might still get used from time to time.  Oh, and a little sports corner, because that is all my little guy wants to do.

Pinterest didn't disappoint. I found SO many ideas and am totally inspired to transform that room now.  So much so that I started cleaning out toys, selling stuff, and making room for the new.

I made a quick stop by Target for a few things earlier this week and then Target did what it always does...it sucked me in.  I started browsing a few aisles and found so many great items to use. And tons of clearance stuff so I decided to grab what I could while it was such a great deal.

Thankfully, I had a good little helper with me, too!  These are super light weight, but still cumbersome and he told me this was going to help build his muscles.

I've got one more big piece of furniture/toy to unload out of that room and then I can get to work. I'm excited about the transformation and even though it is a little sad to think we are past that stage, I'm excited to make this room usable again.  Stay tuned...lots of updates and pictures to follow!

The Amazing Castle

Keeping kids entertained during the Summer can be tricky. Like any stay at home parent, I try my best to set some sort of Summer routine, and limit electronics as best as I can. We love going to the pool, hanging out on the boat, and numerous other outdoor activities, but as much fun as those activities are sometimes you need to switch it up.

My kids love anything to do with royal life. The girls are constantly dressing up and pretending to be princesses, and Cute loves nothing more than grabbing a sword and pretending he is fending off a dragon or bad guys. It isn't uncommon during playdates for them to pretend they are all defending their castle (our backyard playground) from people trying to steal their crown and jewels. So when I heard The Amazing Castle exhibit was making it's way to the Children's Museum of Atlanta, I thought it would be the perfect activity for my little crew!

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

The Amazing Castle is set up to transport your little ones back in time. Once you pass through the castle walls you are introduced to a royal community. There are several different stations set up that highlight important jobs that citizens had with in the castle walls.

Children can dress the part in royal gear, engage in role playing activities, listen to stories told by royal characters, create their own royal puppet show, pick vegetables in a garden, cook a royal meal and more!

One of the kids favorite parts was playing the matching game to wake up Herald the Dragon. If the kids matched each citizen to their activity correctly Herald would pop out of a tower. The kids thought this part was hilarious!

The kids thought it was such a fun experience, and it was perfect for even my littlest one to engage in. The exhibit is geared towards kids ages 2 to 8.

The exhibit is now open and runs through September 9th in Atlanta.

The Children's Museum is so good about bringing in these rotating exhibits where kids can have fun and play, but still learn a little something here and there. Even I typically learn a cool fact or two along the way. Hands on play is such a great way to teach kids, and I love that we have a museum like this close by to enjoy!

You can find out more about The Amazing Castle here, and - if you can - take a peek at the hashtag #AmazingCastleATL on all social media channels. There's a great look at what others have have enjoyed that I might have missed with my crazy crew. :)

Steak 'n Shake {Kids Eat Free}

Thank you Steak 'n Shake for sponsoring this post. All ideas and opinions are our own.

My kids have taken after me and my love of eating out. The older I get the more of a home body I become, but I still love eating out and more importantly not having to cook.  Eating out with a family of 5 can get expensive though.  I'm always looking for places offering deals and kids eat free spots are the best kind of deal around.

We recently learned about Steak 'n Shake's Kids Eat Free program and decided to head there last weekend to try it out. You receive a free kids plate with every $9 spent.

As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the kindest server and shown our table. The kids loved the cute little hats they received and started checking to see what they wanted to order.

I love Steak 'n Shake because it feels just like stepping back in time.  The diner feel is so much fun and the kids loved sitting at the counter while they waited on their food.

The back of the fun menu kept my little guy entertained the entire time he wasn't eating.

Of course after eating their meals the part they loved most were the shakes!

We all had a great time, got a great meal, and most importantly I didn't have to cook or clean up dishes!  If you're looking for somewhere to eat this weekend I'd definitely check out the Kids Eat Free at Steak 'n Shake

***Giveaway***
We're giving away a $50 Steak 'n Shake gift card to one of our lucky followers!  Be sure to head on over to Instagram to check out the details and enter to win!
