Ginger Grapefruit Bourbon Sour Recipe

Happy Friday friends! We have made it - the end of the second week of school. Honestly, a day or two ago, we didn't even think we would make it this far. We are on the struggle bus each morning trying to find the balance again of getting up early and being up late for activities. Not to mention that little word "delta" we keep hearing.

But we aren't even going to talk about that.

We have something a little southern we're mixing up today, and thought we'd share! August weather is not for the weak in the south. And neither are our cocktails. But this one is a little bit sweet and a little bit sour. Today we are mixing one of our favorite bourbons with one of our favorite citrus juices - Grapefruit Juice! Do you crave citrus when it's hot out too?

We've got dinner plans tonight with friends, and thought this Grapefruit Ginger Bourbon Sour would be the perfect cocktail to share.

Plus, consuming is kind of like doing our part. It has all that vitamin C and all, right? ;)

GRAPEFRUIT GINGER BOURBON SOUR

Ingredients
- 1 Bottle of Indian River Grapefruit Juice (it is THE BEST!!!)
- 1 can of ginger beer
- 2 cups of bourbon
- 1/2 cup of lime juice
- optional: one grapefruit for garnish
**add water or ice as needed

Directions
1: In a large pitcher pour grapefruit juice, ginger beer, and lime juice. Stir.
2: Add in bourbon. Stir.

Cocktail Confessions: French 75

A few months ago the Mr. had a French 75 out somewhere and just knew I would like.  I love champagne or Prosecco and I love that it sounded kind of fancy, so we started making them at home.  Now it's one of our go-to summer drinks and the perfectly refreshing cocktail.

French 75

1/2 ounce lemon juice

1/2 ounce simple syrup

3 ounces Champagne or Prosecco

Optional Garnish: lemon twist

Directions:

2. Pour into champagne flute (or we use martini glasses).

3. Top with champagne and garnish with lemon twist.

4. Enjoy!

It's so simple to make and ready in just minutes!  What's your favorite summer cocktail?

Orange Juice Margarita

Today just wouldn't be right if we didn't share a yummy margarita recipe. But really, when aren't margaritas in season?!

We've been known to share a twist on the original margarita a time or two, but this Orange Juice Margarita has been topping the list lately. Plus it's got all that extra vitamin C, and isn't that what the CDC is suggesting what we do with our lives right now.

So really drinking this margarita is kind of, sorta of healthy. So here's to all of our health.

And May 5th.

And the invention of tequila.

ORANGE JUICE MARGARITA RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

- 1 52oz bottle of orange juice (We use Indian River Select juice in the original flavor. Blood Orange is a great alternative for a tangier flavor!)
- 1 cup of tequila
- 1/3 cup of Triple Sec
- 1/3 cup of lime juice
- Optional: orange slices for garnish
- Optional: salt or sugar for rim

INSTRUCTIONS

1: Cut orange into slices.
2: If rimming glasses with salt or sugar, rub the juice from an orange slice on the rim of the glass and then dip into salt or sugar.
3: Mix orange juice, tequila, Triple Sec, lime juice together in a pitcher. Stir and then serve cold.

Bourbon Apple Cider Recipe

Happy Monday friends! We're one and a half week's out from Christmas Day, the school activities are a plenty, and the to do list doesn't seem to be shrinking as fast as we want it to. Our brains are running on caffeine and Christmas carols.

And cocktails.

'Tis the season!

Today we have a yummy drink recipe for you because in the South bourbon makes everything better. From cocktail parties to surviving those long lines at the mall - this Bourbon Apple Cider will get you through.

It's a holiday favorite just because it gives us a break from all things peppermint and cranberry. It's light enough to not make you feel like you're on a pure sugar rush - we like to save that feeling for the 9,398 holiday cookies we tend to consume from Thanksgiving to New Years. Yet it still has that winter bite to it that makes sharing it during the holidays the perfect holiday party drink.

Or, you know, the perfect one to consume while wrapping that palette of presents that arrives daily from Amazon. We'll let you decide.

BOURBON APPLE CIDER RECIPE

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 5 mins

INGREDIENTS

  • 16 ounces of apple cider
  • 8 ounces of bourbon
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 orange
  • optional garnish: cinnamon, orange slice & spring of rosemary
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Combine cinnamon and sugar on a plate.
  2. Cut an orange into wedge slices. Use wedge to wet the rim of the glass. Dip glass rim into sugar mixture.
  3. In a shaker mix cider and bourbon over ice. Stir to combine.
  4. Pour mixture into garnished glass over ice.
  5. Serve and enjoy!

Cocktail Confessions: Jingle Juice Punch

Over the weekend after spending our Friday at Findlay Rowe and being surrounded by all of their holiday sparkle, we couldn't wait any longer. We broke our no Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving rule.  Our homes aren't full blown Winter Wonderlands just yet, but by the end of this week they might be.

One of our favorite things about this time of year is all of the time spent with friends and family. I'm so excited to have family in town this year for Christmas. We usually travel, but this year we are staying put and some of my family is coming to us. I couldn't be more excited about it!

I'm SO looking forward to hosting and will certainly be putting my new Laurie Louis Designs holiday designs to good use.

I just love the reindeer design and I'm an old fashioned girl when it comes to my holiday decor. I like traditional red and green so these pieces go great with what I have all around my home.

Whether you are having family over, host a big holiday party, or just a little get-together with friends, one of my go-to hosting tips is to have a signature cocktail on hand. Something easy to whip up and serve, but also something that sets the tone with it's colors and flavors.

This Jingle Juice Punch is just that!  So pretty and tasty and simple to make because it only has four ingredients!

Jingle Juice Punch
1 bottle Whipped Vodka
1 bottle Pink Champagne
1 2-liter bottle Cherry 7-up
2 cups Cranberry Juice
Cranberries for garnish

In a punch bowl or large pitcher fill with ice and combine all of the ingredients. Stir well and serve!

We decided to make a kiddie version of this drink for the Mini Magnolias and they just loved doing a little taste testing.  Their favorite combo was Sprite with a splash of Cranberry Juice served in a fancy glass and garnished with cranberries.  They felt so big and loved feeling like they had a special drink just for them!

Cocktail Confessions: Apple Cider Mimosas

Happy Monday friends! What else to make your Monday better than a yummy little cocktail recipe?

Ever since we did a little Fall frolicking at our favorite apple orchard, we've had apples on the brain. And in our bellies.

We've pretty much have been consuming them 24/7 since our return. Someone might have gone a little apple crazy in the baked goods section of the store.

And apples were totally the inspiration for our latest little cocktail - the Apple Cider Mimosa!

apple cider mimosas

The Apple Cider Mimosas are so so yummy! And super easy to make! They only take a few ingredients and are like putting a little taste of fall right in your mouth.

With all the fun fall holidays coming up, and tons of entertaining scheduled on the calendar, we know we will be whipping out this easy recipe repeatedly.

From brunches to Thanksgiving dinner to maybe even a little pre-trick-or-treating happy hour, Apple Cider Mimosas are the perfect little crowd pleasing drink.

Besides, how else will we put all those dozens of apples we picked during our fall family fun to good use?

Cocktail Confessions: Mermaid Margarita

Margaritas are some of our favorite summer cocktails and this ocean blue mermaid margarita is our new favorite.  Sipping on the sweet, blue drink makes us feel like we're oceanside at the first sip.

We're sharing the full recipe and details over on Savvy Sassy Moms today.  Click HERE to read all  about the Mermaid Margarita.

My girls love all things mermaid so when they saw me in the kitchen mixing up something pretty and blue they asked me what it was. When I told them the name they were sure they would be able to get a taste and really had hoped this was a drink they could enjoy. Ha!  I'll have to come up with a kid mock-tail version for them, but thought I'd share some of their very favorite mermaid things though!

They got these mermaid blankets for Christmas and just love them!  They will use them to get cozy when reading a book or watching a movie.

My little Boo-Boo feels left out sometimes with all this girly stuff so he's getting a Shark Tail blanket for his birthday in a few weeks!

The girls also have some mermaid tails they can actually swim with in the pool. I can't believe I can't find a picture of them to share with y'all.  They have foot straps on a mono fin and that slips into the actual mermaid tail. It's made of a leotard/swimsuit type material and just slips right over their swim suits.  They always get asked by the other kids where to buy them and everyone wants a turn to try it out.

Just last week we were in Bath and Body Works stocking up on some soaps and Blondie saw this cute Mermaid sanitizer holder and Mermazing sanitizer to match.  So fun for summer and so cute for girls of all ages.

And my same sweet little Blondie is begging me to get Netflix because she wants to watch Mako Mermaids.  I think she saw it at a friend's house and asks me about it almost daily.

Here's the thing...we had Netflix and ended up canceling our subscription because the Mr. and I never used it, but I didn't really ever think to use it for the kids.  So now I'm kind of thinking maybe I want to look into another subscription.  Tell me, does your family have Netflix and do you use it a lot?  Can kids watch from their devices or on iPads?  Someone help me out because I'm clueless when it comes to this kind of stuff!

Cocktail Confessions: The Kentucky Oaks Lily

Last week I shared all about our trip to the Kentucky Derby and the amazing time we had.  While Mint Juleps are the official drink of the Derby, they aren't really my favorite, so I was excited to learn about another drink that is served at Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Oaks Lily.

Here's the deal, the Kentucky Oaks is run on the day before the Derby.  We did not attend this year, but it draws a pretty big crowd and in most recent years they have partnered with an organization to raise money for Breast Cancer.  Everyone wears pink to the Oaks in honor of those women and to help support the cause. Also, the winner of the Kentucky Oaks is adorned with beautiful pink Lilies instead of roses like at the Derby.  So, this drink was created and is the signature drink of that day.  Lucky for gals like me that prefer something a bit sweeter (and pink!), this drink is also served on the day of the Derby.  You just have to know to ask for it.

I knew I wanted to recreate it at home so I asked our bartenders that day to share the recipe and they gladly did.

The Kentucky Oaks Lily
1 oz Vodka
1 oz Sweet and Sour Mix
3 oz Cranberry juice
Splash of Triple Sec

Earlier this week as I was watching my kids play outside after dinner I enjoyed sipping on my own Lily!

I mean it was almost the same as being at the Derby.  Almost.  Except instead of watching horse racing dressed up in fancy outfits I was watching my kiddos horse around while I was dressed in my yoga pants.  A mom can dream, right? At least I had a pretty backdrop of flowers for my homemade Lily just like I did at the Derby.  Cheers to all the moms and happy Friday!

Cocktail Confessions: The Sassy Leprechaun

Happy Friday everyone! And how fun is it that this Friday is also St. Patrick's Day?!? That means we will be celebrating all things green...including green beverages.

And maybe since St. Patrick's Day falls on a Friday this year, especially green beverages.

True to our Irish heritage, we weren't about to pass up a chance to craft a yummy holiday themed cocktail.

Especially a holiday that allows us to use our favorite gold sprinkles as part of the garnishing. Although, when isn't it a good time to use gold sprinkles?

We created the Sassy Leprechaun cocktail for those super fun and sassy moms we just happen to know and love.

The Sassy Leprechaun is a yummy drink crafted from fruity flavors and ingredients that you probably already have in your at home bar (read: tequila). With in just minutes you can whip up this yummy (and bonus - low calorie!) cocktail to get your drink on this St. Patrick's Day.

Make the hop to grab The Sassy Leprechaun Cocktail recipe, and make sure the only one doing the pinching today is you!

Cheers and Happy St. Patrick's Day y'all!
