Ginger Grapefruit Bourbon Sour Recipe

Happy Friday friends! We have made it - the end of the second week of school. Honestly, a day or two ago, we didn't even think we would make it this far. We are on the struggle bus each morning trying to find the balance again of getting up early and being up late for activities. Not to mention that little word "delta" we keep hearing.

But we aren't even going to talk about that.

We have something a little southern we're mixing up today, and thought we'd share! August weather is not for the weak in the south. And neither are our cocktails. But this one is a little bit sweet and a little bit sour. Today we are mixing one of our favorite bourbons with one of our favorite citrus juices - Grapefruit Juice! Do you crave citrus when it's hot out too?

We've got dinner plans tonight with friends, and thought this Grapefruit Ginger Bourbon Sour would be the perfect cocktail to share.

Plus, consuming is kind of like doing our part. It has all that vitamin C and all, right? ;)

GRAPEFRUIT GINGER BOURBON SOUR

Ingredients
- 1 Bottle of Indian River Grapefruit Juice (it is THE BEST!!!)
- 1 can of ginger beer
- 2 cups of bourbon
- 1/2 cup of lime juice
- optional: one grapefruit for garnish
**add water or ice as needed

Directions
1: In a large pitcher pour grapefruit juice, ginger beer, and lime juice. Stir.
2: Add in bourbon. Stir.
3: Garnish as desired.
4: Serve and enjoy!

Pineapple Mimosa Recipe

It's official - all the kids are back in school (in some capacity)! But it still feels like Summer. Cross over the two and we feel like that deserves a little something to celebrate.

We present to you...

...the Pineapple Mimosa!

This is the next recipe in Summer Recipe Series and it's the perfect easy cocktail for this time of year. Baby showers, ladies brunches, Sunday mornings by the pool...it has you covered. It's also the one our friends like to recreate most whenever we break out the Mom-mosa Bar

If you've missed the other recipes over the last few weeks, here they are:

And now for the main event.

PINEAPPLE MIMOSA RECIPE

Harvest Punch Recipe

A few weeks ago we co-celebrated our five year blog-iversary with the ladies of Findlay Rowe. At the event shared this yummy Harvest Punch with everyone.  We mixed both an alcoholic and non-alcoholic version, and apparently it was a huge hit because we've had all the questions about it. So today we're sharing the secret, not-so-secret recipe with y'all.

It's been one of our favorite Fall drinks to pull out during parties and showers for years, and we can't believe we've never shared it before. It's super easy to make and with one simple step it can be made as a mocktail or a cocktail.

HARVEST PUNCH RECIPE

Serves: 20-25
Prep Time : 2 mins
Total Time: 2 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 64 oz bottle of apple juice
  • 3 cups of orange juice (or you can do one 1 12 oz can of orange juice frozen concentrate)
  • 16 oz of cranberry juice
  • 1 cup of pear juice
  • Half a liter of ginger ale or lemon lime soda
  • Optional garnish: Sliced apples or frozen cranberries

Instructions
  • In a large punch bowl or drink dispenser (this cute galvanized one is from Findlay Rowe) pour all juices.
  • Top with garnish.
  • Serve and enjoy!

To make the alcoholic version:
We've done this several different ways but for the event we added Caramel flavored Vodka. Other great options are Spiced Rum, Hard Cider, or Vodka. Just add approximately 16 oz of your desired choice to your juice mixture (or a little more if you're feeling like you want to take your Fall frolicking to the next level).

Cheers friends! Happy drinking!

Rock Candy Cocktails for Spring Entertaining

Happy Monday! We are going to keep today as bright and cheery as possible because let's be honest -   Monday.

We have a few fun events coming up and I wanted to do something a little different and unique for a drink. Spring is so fun for entertaining and wanted the drink to be just as colorful as the colors around us.  I had been to an event a long time ago where they used rock candy to garnish their cocktails, and I used that as a little inspiration for our latest cocktail concoction.

Rock candy totally reminds me of when I was a kid, and when I showed it to my own children they thought it was the funniest lollipop they had ever seen.

After mixing the candy with one of our favorite stand alone drinks (mmm, champs!), I realized the rock candy was actually perfect on several levels as a drink garnish.

The candy doubles as both a flavorful addition as well as an adorable stirrer.

I loved how colorful and fun each of the drinks came out, and while I went for the rainbow effect for spring, you can use a single color to coordinate with any event you have planned.

The multi colored rock candy were each flavored differently so each cocktail was a little surprise when you sipped it. Again if you are looking for consistency I would pick one single color.

Make the hop over to Savvy Sassy Moms to check out the recipes, and all the ways we used rock candy in these fun cocktails for spring entertaining.

Cocktail Confessions: Apple Pomegranate Fizz

Happy Tuesday friends!

I know we are supposed to be all about the pumpkin right now, but...
I just can't seem to quit the apple!

It's just too good of a flavor to give up, and this Apple Pomegranate Fizz might just be the perfect fall cocktail. We were asked to give it a try as part of the West Elm and Whole Food collaboration a few weeks ago, and it's a recipe we keep coming back to.

Cocktail-ing for a good cause?

We are always down for that!

We still have a ton of apples leftover from our trip to the apple orchards a few weeks ago, and this seemed like the perfect recipe to try from the collaboration - although all of them looked quite yummy!

The second time around we made this cocktail, I adjusted it to make it a little bit simpler. Here's my twist on the Apple Pomegranate Fizz.

APPLE POMEGRANATE FIZZ
Serves 4-6

INGREDIENTS
- 1/4 cup of ginger beer
- 2 cups of unsweetened pomegranate juice
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1 quart of hard apple cider (use sparkling cider for a non-alcoholic alternative)
- 2 apples, thinly sliced (for garnish if desired

DIRECTIONS
1: Mix 1/2 cup of hot water, sugar, and ginger beer. Mix until sugar is dissolved.
2: Stir in sparkling cider and pomegranate juice.
3: Place mixture in large serving pitcher or punch bowl and garnish.
4: Serve and enjoy.

Whether you are celebrating the end of season tailgates, or have a holiday party on the horizon, the Apple Pomengrante Fizz would be the perfect drink to serve your guests.

Now please invite us so we can enjoy it again too!

Cocktail Confessions: Bourbon Peach Poptail

Happy Wednesday sweet friends!

We've made it halfway through the week, and some weeks that just deserves a celebration. The poptail Cocktail Confession has made it's way around once already, but we just can't seem to quit it.

Sometimes some things are so good they are worth repeating. Like this yummy little confection...

We shared this fun cocktail earlier this Fall when we discussed all things porches and poptails with our friend Amanda, but just in case you missed it...

BOURBON PEACH POPTAIL
Makes 1 serving

Ingredients
- 3oz of bourbon
- 1 tbsp of lemon juice
- 1 peach flavored popsicle
- a splash of water or ice if desired

Instructions
- Mix bourbon and lemon juice in a lowball glass
- Add peach popsicle. Let settle  and melt for a minute or two.
- Serve and enjoy!

It's still warm enough here in the Deep South to enjoy a little poptail here and there. Trust us - this one has just enough "bite" to warm you up straight through the Winter!

Cheers!

Cocktail Confessions: Orange Dreamsicle

Happy Thursday friends! Ok before we get to the super yummy cocktail, we have a little confession to make...

Way back in 2012, we were on vacation at one of our favorite Sandestin resorts, and while the husbands were out playing golf, we were "lounging" poolside (as much lounging as you could do with four kids under five in tow). Being that it was the hottest summer in recent history, and more than a little toasty, we did the only thing we knew to do to hydrate in the situation - we ordered a nice frosty cocktail.

Ahh...the Dreamsicle.

Thus, a love affair was born. We didn't really think about what we were ordering at the time, but we learned that the Dreamsicle was definitely a good idea.

Fast forward to 2014.
Same resort. Same hot summer. Same husbands are playing golf. But now we are chasing five little ones around the pool deck.

And you know what we did?

Cheers!

And do you know what sport takes a long time to play? Golf.
Golf takes fooooorrrreeevvver to play.

And that equals an intimate relationship with the poolside waitress, and a bill full of Dreamsicles.

Clearly by dinner time it was a great idea. Golf rocks.

You know what is another great idea - this blog.

That's right, this blog was born from this frosty inspiration of the Dreamsicle. We were sitting there poolside watching our lovely children play on the stairs and splash happily, when we began talking about the idea of co-creating a blog. As the week went on (and possibly a few more Dreamsicles consumed), the idea stuck and a few weeks later The Magnolia Mamas blog was officially born.

So thank you Sandestin and your fabulous Florida orange deliciousness. It's been a rocking (almost) two years!

Now that confessions are done, here is the recipe that great ideas are made of. Thank us later.

THE ORANGE DREAMSICLE COCKTAIL

Ingredients
  • 6 ounces of orange juice
  • 3/4 cup of vanilla ice cream
  • 2 oz of vodka
  • 1/4 oz of Triple Sec
  • 1/2 oz of whipped vodka
  • 3-4 ice cubes

Note: For this I used my favorite non-dairy ice cream, but any vanilla ice cream is good. This coconut milk alternative ice cream was just as delish.

Instructions:
  • Crush ice cubes up first.
  • Add in orange juice, ice cream, vodkas, and Triple Sec.
  • Blend until smooth like a frosty.

  • Pour into glass, top with whipped cream, and serve immediately.

Hope you enjoyed our confession today. Enjoy responsibly and let us know if you love the Dreamsicle as much as we do!

Cheers!

Kitchen Confessions: Vintage Sparkling Water

Wahoo the weekend is near! I just love summer weekends and am cherishing these last few we have available to us before the school grind begins.

I would be remiss if I went into this weekend and didn't share my new favorite drink with you. Summer always has me craving something light and fruity to drink. Not to mention it is always so hot here in the deep south you are constantly thirsty, and its tough to stay feeling refreshed and rehydrated.

As I was strolling through the aisles of my local Kroger, on one of the nine shopping trips I usually make during a week, I found this super cute sparkling water. We love drinking sparkling water, and when I saw the Vintage Sparkling Water display it caught my eye. The flavors sounded just what summer ordered (Pink Grapefruit, Lemon, and Cucumber Melon), and when I checked the nutritional content I was impressed.

Vintage Sparkling Water is Gluten-Free, fat free, calorie free, doesn't contain any artificial flavors or dyes, and is sugar free. The only thing it isn't free of is great taste.

Cucumber Melon was the first flavor I tried, and it quickly became my go to drink to bring with my to the pool. It was crisp, yummy and just the refreshing drink I was looking for after playing with The Cutes in the pool all morning.

When I went to re-stock on my next trip to Kroger, I was so excited to find a different flavor was now available - Coconut.

Coconut people. COCONUT!!!

I might have squealed in excitement. As a lover of all things coconut, I knew that Vintage Sparkling Water and I were just meant to be.

The coconut quickly became my new favorite and I became a full on addict by day two. It is that YUMMY!

A twelve pack is pretty inexpensive at $3.99, but I was so excited to learn on the Vintage website they share a digital coupon for a $1.00 off. I love that my new favorite drink is yummy and doesn't break the budget at the checkout counter.

I also saw that on the Vintage Sparkling Water website they share a ton of delicious recipes that you can make with their flavored waters - yum!  The recipes and video tutorials make mixing drinks easy and fun. Being huge Moscow Mule fans, the Vintage Mule just sounds plain scrumptious, and how could any southern girl not like the sound of the Vintage Southern Smile?

When we were craving a little afternoon weekend cocktail I knew that I wanted to make one of the yummy recipes with my new favorite drink, but then when I looked in our fridge I knew I had the ingredients to come up with a little something on my own.

Mr. Cute always has pineapple on hand and what goes better together than pineapple and coconut? The answer nothing! It's a match made in tastebud heaven. I came up with this yummy pineapple and coconut recipe and it was delicious!

Sparkling Pineapple-Coconut Crush
(makes two servings - 110 cal/serving)

Ingredients
- 1 cup of chunked pineapple
-1 can of Coconut Vintage Sparkling Water
- 3oz of Coconut flavored rum

Directions
-Place pineapple in blender and blend until smooth
- Add in can of Coconut Vintage Sparkling Water and rum
- Mix in blender for a full minute
- Serve and please drink responsibly

**For a non-alcoholic version add a teaspoon of lime juice and a half a cup of ice and you have a yummy and refreshing alternative. **

It is seriously yummy, and is the perfect light, yummy drink with a hint of sparkle that summer calls for.

Cheers to that and finding my new favorite drink!

We hope you have a great weekend and enjoy your own refreshing Vintage Sparkling Water!
Which flavor will you try?
