Easy Spooky Spider Cupcakes for Halloween

Create a scare if you dare with these spooktacularly delicious spider cupcakes!

Halloween is all about the treats. And listen, we are so here for it. Give us all the excuses for yummy desserts, cute costumes, and the chance to raid our kids’ candy collections straight through to Thanksgiving. (Dibs on the KitKats!).

What we aren’t here for is the free time to make all those Pinterest-worthy desserts and crafts. We wish we had the free time to create bats out of our kids’ sandwiches or bake a life-sized Frankenstein pizza, but sometimes life doesn’t always work out that way.

We’ve worked some of our busy mom-approved witchcraft, and created these adorable spider cupcakes. The best part, (aside from being delicious of course) they only take a few moments to create. In just a few quick and easy steps you will have all that pin-worthy Halloween cuteness, without all the pin-worthy time.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • 1 pkg of boxed cupcake mix (we used pumpkin for our cupcakes, but it would look cute with vanilla or chocolate as well!)
  • 1 container of frosting
  • Tube of decorators frosting
  • cupcake liners
  • 1 toothpick
  • assorted spider rings
  • serving tray (we used this striped one and here is a more cost effective one)

HOW TO CREATE YOUR SPOOKY SPIDER CUPCAKES

1: Bake cupcakes according to box instructions. Let cool for approximately half an hour. (Note: If you want to speed up this process you can buy pre-made cupcakes as well. No judgment.)

2: Once your cupcakes have cooled, place frosting on top spreading out generously. Don’t worry about creating any sort of pattern. You want the frosting to be as smooth and flat as possible.

3: Take your decorator’s frosting and cut the end of the tip at an angle. Place a small dot of frosting in the middle of your cupcake. Then place rings of frosting around the dot increasing in size as you go. Repeat for all cupcakes.

4: Take the toothpick, and place it at the center frosting dot. Gently trace a line outward through all the rings. It should start to look connected like a web.

5: Once you’ve connected all the rings, place a spider ring in the center of the cupcake. (Note: We placed ours in the center, but later realized it would also be adorable to place them in any part of the “web”.)

6: Place on serving tray and let everyone enjoy!

Spooky Spider Cupcakes for Halloween

Halloween is now just a hop, skip, and candy filled jump away. Our kids are sooooo excited about it! They've had their costumes picked out since before our Fall Break. They saw costumes they liked at Target and with just a click of a button they were on our door step in a few days. They are beyond excited to run around with their friends next week as a velociraptor, a Lip Stick Shopkins, and a mermaid.

I saw that mermaid costume and swooned! I momentarily had visions of the girls being matching mermaids, and Cute being a shark, pirate or something else to go with the theme, but sadly the matching costume days are way behind us.

Along with Halloween costumes, and all the spooky fun, comes the parties. I usually try to volunteer for Halloween because it is one of the more fun parties to do throughout the school year. Plus there are a ton of options when it comes to games, crafts, books, and decor available. It makes it so easy!

This year with three little ones in school (and three parties to attend), I decided to keep things easy. These Spider Cupcakes literally took no time at all to make and are a fun way to get in the Halloween spirit.

In just a few easy steps you have a fun Halloween treat as well as a fun spider ring the kids can play with long after the treat is gone.

I'm dishing on all the details about these Spooky Spider Cupcakes over on Savvy Sassy Moms.
(Psst...I even share a cheat or two if you are wanting to keep this task under five minutes!)

Getting Halloween Party Prepped + Printable

This time of year is just so fun! Summer will always be our happy place, but Fall just makes us giddy. From football to apple picking to our personal favorite fall activity - HALLOWEEN!

For months now our kids have been grabbing every costume themed catalog out of the mail that they can. They spend hours pouring over each page, circling all their favorites until they decide exactly what they want to be for the big day. Sometimes take on the challenge to make the costumes, and other years we opt to just go ahead and make their spooky dreams come true straight from the pages of their copious circling.

This year Boo-Boo set his sights on being a ninja, and not just any ninja - a camo ninja! As he was looking through the Oriental Trading catalog he spotted this costume and deemed it perfect for this year's Halloween festivities. Who knew such a thing even existed?

Checking at least one costume off our list, we happily clicked "add to cart", and within just a few days his camo ninja costume was on our doorstep. He couldn't wait to put it on and show off all of his awesome ninja moves.

The nice thing about ordering his costume from Oriental Trading this year, was that we were able to go ahead and get our order going as well for all of our Halloween activities. With six children between us that's at least six costumes and at least five classroom parties, plus any celebrations they might have at their after school activities, in the neighborhood, at playgroup, and maybe throw in an adult party or two. You get the idea - it can add up!

Oriental Trading has such a great selection of Halloween items that it literally is a one-stop shop for all the things we need. Once the kids are done with their catalog circling, we usually take a peek at the catalog ourselves to start making a Halloween party prep list. From candy options (or even non-candy options) to spooktacular table decor they have everything we could possibly need to be prepared for Halloween.

This year is Little Cute's first official class party, and in our planning we thought it would be fun to set up a spooky little luncheon to host after her costume parade. Our excitement might have rivaled Boo-Boo's when we opened our box to see all of the fun Halloween goodies in person. Those little disposable ghost cups might be the cutest thing ever!

We put everything together just to make sure it would work with what we have in mind. We can't wait to see the  kids faces. This age is so fun and they will be so thrilled when they see their spooky set up.

We decided to throw in a little something extra to each place setting just to give the party a little added fun. When we spotted these fun Halloween sunglasses in the catalog, and just knew it would make for the perfect Halloween party favor.

The kids have already had fun testing them out, but we know that L.C. and her classmates will have a good giggle when they each wear their "ghost goggles" during the party.

We whipped up this printable and attached it to each pair to complete the table setting.

Simple and easy, and the perfect way to top off the party!

Between the costumes, "ghost goggles", party decor, and a few fun treats and activities we've sourced from the Oriental Trading's sister site Free-N-Fun (which is an ah-mazing resource that you totally need to check out!), we feel beyond prepared for a spook-tacular Halloween party season.

Be sure to check out Oriental Trading's coupon page for the latest deals!

Now to let the countdown officially begin to all things spooky!
