Minions Movie Night

It is no secret that around this house we love ourselves a good movie night. Nothing is better than cuddling up on the couch in our pjs together, and enjoying a night in. Last week was a bit of a doozy, so a movie night is just what the doctor ordered.

Little Cute ended up breaking her arm and is donning the latest in holiday attire by sporting this fashionable pink cast. Yikes! So when you break a limb in this house you automatically get to pick out the next movie night's featured film. I mean it only seems fair, right?

As we were cruising through one of our many holiday trips through the stores these days, she spotted from afar some familiar yellow faces. She was SO excited to see the Minions movie that I instantly knew that would be this week's preview.

Little Cute has never seen the movie, but was introduced to the adorable little guys when the movie premiered. Over the summer we had done a fun Minions © 2015 Universal Studios - All rights reserved - Backyard Bash premier party with some of our good friends, and she fell instantly in love with Stuart, Kevin, and Bob. She thinks the "yellow men in silly goggles" are hilarious. So it definitely worked out in our favor that that the Minions DVD released on December 8th. I grabbed the Minions Blu Ray/DVD combo pack, and instantly started planning our Minions Movie Night.

Knowing it had been a traumatic week for everyone, and learning that the Minions movie was bringing some much needed joy into our hurt girl's week, I decided I needed to amp up my movie night game and make some extra special treats.

One thing my littles love more than anything is ice cream! I decided to put my thinking hard hat on and come up with a yummy and fun treat that I know The Cutes will just go bananas for (see what I did there? ;) ). I landed on two delicious Minions themed treats that will partner well with our other favorite, popcorn, to give us that ultimate salty sweet combo we always seek during movie watching.

Easy Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream - Minions Style
Prep Time: 4+ hours
Serves: 6-8

Ingredients:
- 2 cups of heavy whipping cream
- 2 cups of half and half cream
- 3/4 cup of white sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
- Ice Cream Maker
- Rock salt (for ice cream maker)
- Toppings: Minions fruit snacks (in lieu of gummy bears), chocolate candies, whipped cream, minion eye candy, blue frosting

Instructions:
1: In a large bowl, combine whipping cream and half and half.
2: Whisk in the vanilla.
3: Refrigerate covered. Wait approximately 3 hours until very cold.
4: Remove and whisk the mixture to blend and place in your ice cream maker container. Freeze according to your ice cream maker's instructions and then eat immediately or freeze to enjoy later.

Part of the fun of ice cream is the toppings! Let children put on minions toppings of choice and decorate away.

Sometimes my littles tend to want to drink milkshakes instead of eat ice cream (and it's usually less of a mess for mommy to clean up too!), so I decided to go ahead and think of an alternative just in case.

Minions Milkshake
Ingredients:
- Vanilla ice cream (see above)
- Blue frosting or food coloring.
- Toppings or mix ins (if desired): chocolate covered candies, sprinkles, whipped cream, etc.

Instructions:
1: Mix vanilla ice cream with blue frosting/coloring until desired color of blue.
2: Layer plain vanilla ice cream with the blue version until cup is filled.
3: Top with whipped cream and desired toppings.
4: Enjoy!

Cute was more than willing to test out the finished product to make sure it was just right for our movie night later.

I can't wait to snuggle in for our official Minions movie night later! I am already looking forward to seeing The Cutes huge smiles at the yummy treats, and hearing those sweet giggles as they laugh over the silly antics of the minions.

I just know L.C. will be hooked and will want to see the remaining Illumination Entertainment movies featuring these little guys. Good thing we already have Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 on standby ready to go, or I have a feeling I would know Minions by heart before the week is over.

Are you planning your own Minions Movie Night? What fun recipes or snacks will you be making for the celebration? We would love for you to share!

Minions Movie {Review}

To continue our Minion fun this month, over the weekend we took on a date by himself to see the new Minions movie. Cute thrives on one on one time and we thought this would be a fun treat for him.

We have a Movie Tavern a few miles from our home and we love seeing movies there. With their large seats that you are able to order directly from its hard to beat. When we arrived something was apparently wrong with our tickets/seats. Without us even being aware of the problem the manager refunded our purchase and took care of everything seamlessly. So add great customer service to the aforementioned attributes and you have a customer for life. Go ahead and sign me up for the extra large popcorn please!

THE STORY
The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters — from T. Rex to Napoleon — the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.
But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he — alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob — ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.
The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award® winner Sandra Bullock), the world’s first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind…from annihilation.
THE REVIEW
The Minions movie was a huge hit amongst all three of us. The Minions hardly speak throughout the movie, but you get a great idea of what their plan is through their actions and expressions. Like in the Despicable Me series, the Minions antics are silly and often unintentional. Cute thought they were simply hilarious.

The movie discusses villains throughout, but everything was pretty child friendly and silly. Even the weapons they used were silly (i.e. lava ray guns, and hypnotic hats). The few parts I thought could be scary to a little one were diffused with Minion humor.

If your little one has seen the Despicable Me movie series, stick through the beginning of the credits because you get a little peek at a younger Gru and how he interacts with the Minions, and Cute loved this part.

Over all we give it three thumbs up and it was a fun afternoon date for us with Cute. He already can't wait to bring the "Minions movie home with us" to share with Little Cute.

Did you see the Minions movie this weekend or have plans to see it soon? What did you think?
