Mix & Mingle: Feathered Nest Boutique {Giveaway}

Of all the fun things we do, the "Mix & Mingle" series is one of our absolute favorites! We love getting to share with you a little more behind the scenes look at some of the faces or products you see on our blog.

We've met and become friends with some amazing Mom Bosses through our little slice of internet, and at the top of our list is our friend Kathryn. Kathryn is the owner of  Feathered Nest Boutique, which features her amazing Southern Girls Collection. She is located just a hop, skip, and a jump away from our hometowns, and we've put "Take Kathryn out for drinks!" at the top of our must-do list for this year. We just know it would be a good time!

First let's get to know Kathyrn a little bit...

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF.
I grew up in Fort Valley, Georgia on my family's farm and have called Athens home for the last 20 years. My two kids, Emerson, 17, and Parker, 15, and our five rescue dogs keep me on my toes and make life anything but boring. I'm NOT ready for my daughter to be graduating soon from high school. EEK!

IF YOU COULD VISIT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD THAT BE?
My happy place is St. Simons Island. I spent vacations there as a kid and with my children as well. I cannot think of anything better than sand, salt air, and Bennie's Red Barn or Barbara Jean's!

WHEN YOU HAVE 30 MINUTES OF FREE TIME, HOW DO YOU SPEND THAT TIME?
I love to read! A few of my favorite Southern authors are Karin Slaughter, Anne Siddons and Charles Martin.

HOW DID FEATHERED NEST BOUTIQUE COME TO BE?
I started Feathered Nest Boutique six years ago after losing both my parents and going through a very rough time. I've battled depression more than half my life but after my parents passed away, I struggled with severe depression, anxiety and panic attacks. FNB was a way for me to focus on creating something positive, having a purpose each day and a way to force myself to interact with people again. I started making purses but soon fell into a passion for monogrammed items.

My dream was to have a brick & motar store but I felt that wasn't obtainable with my anxiety. So I found another option with my online biz. I still prefer to 'hide' behind my screen most of the time but my social-media presence allows me to do more whenever it feels right. Baby steps!

My work space grew from my mother's sewing machine crammed into a tiny closet to a porch-turned-sunroom-turned-studio. It's tiny and overflowing but it's a dream come true!

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO BE CREATIVE?
Growing up I was surrounded by strong, creative Southern women who taught me to sew, work hard, and never give up. Whenever I hit a wall creatively or business wise, I think about them and how they would attack it.

My mother was an amazing artist who, in the 1980s, had her own counted cross stitch business. I grew up watching and helping her in her office, warehouse and even at national trade shows. She taught me to strive to always provide the customer with more than they expect. That's why I include my handmade hair ties with every order - my little way of saying thank you!

My daddy was a third-generation farmer who gave me my love of all things Southern. I'm actually in the process of rebranding my business and changing the name to honor my daddy and our family's farm.

In the studio, every day I use my Grandmother's sewing table and my Mama's sewing tools. The mantel in the studio belonged to my other Grandmother. A recycled gate turned bulletin board is covered with photos of my parents and my kids as daily inspiration.

Isn't her work space just darling?!  And we love all of her southern and family ties that continue to inspire and influence all that she does with her business.
Now that y'all have gotten to know a little more about Kathryn, we want to share some of her AMAZING products that we just love.  When we say this gal knocks it out of the park, we mean it.  She makes so many adorable things and puts a southern twist on just about everything she creates.  For special occasions or everyday fun, she's always able to deliver a little something perfect for our needs.

Tees & Sweatshirts
No matter what the season or what the holiday, Feathered Nest Boutique has the cutest tops ready to help you be decked out in theme wear.  There are lots of monogram options or super cute sayings!  These are some of our favorites because they are so comfy, but so cute!

This Pucker Up Buttercup design is cute for Valentine's Day, but also date nights!

And you might remember this that we shared on Instagram before New Years?  The off the shoulder sweatshirts look great layered.

This "Bless Your Heart" sweatshirt is one of our new favorites, and has been on repeat lately!

Our Southern souls just needed this in our closets. There's not a day that goes by that this saying - or at least thought - doesn't eek from a southern ladies lips somewhere.

We love that the saying comes in a fun array of other options too (see the Raglan tee, and the Comfort Colors Long Sleeve Tee)!

 Can Huggers {AKA Koozies}
If there is one thing we love in the south it is nice cold drinks and therefore, we always have can huggers (or koozies, as I've always called them) on hand. There is nothing worse that having your drink get warm before you finish drinking it.

Kathryn has such adorable gingham koozies with the most fun sayings on them as part of her Southern Girls Collection.

Some are really fun for holidays and events and we just love the tongue-in-cheek-ones she comes up with best!

Stay tuned too because we got some inside information from Kathryn that a few new additions will be made to the collection soon!

Totes Adorbs
Listen what girl doesn't love a good tote? Especially a cute one? Well remember, that adorable "Bless Your Heart" Sweatshirt we mentioned above? It also is available in a tote!

And how cute is it?!?

These totes are large, in charge, and perfect for your everyday needs. It comes in a few different colors, and a variety of options for color of the wording. We love the variety available and think it would make for a great gift!

Monograms & More!
We mentioned that she offers tons of monogram options, but did you know she often combines two of our favorite things?!?  Monograms and Lilly!!!

From sweatshirts to appliquéd fleeces to beyond adorable ball caps - she's covered it all!

And one thing that alway stands out to us are the little things.  With every order she includes hand tied hair ties and often a little candy or treat as a way to say thank you for ordering from her shop.  Those little things make us smile and it is as if she's sending a bit of southern hospitality right along with your order.

***GIVEAWAY***
We're so excited to be partnering with Feathered Nest Boutique to give away this Bless Your Heart pillow cover  and can huggers to one lucky reader!  To enter, simply leave a comment letting us know something you saw in her shop that you loved!  Winner will be announced on Valentine's Day!

Friday Favorites

We made it to Friday!  Getting through the first week of school can be kind of rough.  Not only are the kids adjusting to their new schedule, but the mamas are, too.  For someone like me who is not a morning person, I couldn't be happier to go to bed tonight and not have to set an alarm.

Today I'm going to share a few favorites from this week and link up with some of our favorite bloggers for Friday Favorites.

Just before school started, Jen and I were trying to squeeze in some last minute fun for the kids so we went to a local trampoline park.  After we grabbed lunch at our favorite, Chick-fil-a, and while we were finishing up we looked over and the boys were taking fake selfies.  They weren't holding a camera or phone, just pretending that they had one.  Well, Jen gave them her phone and they proceeded to take what might have been the funniest selfies ever.  I snapped a quick pic of them in action and we were dying laughing.  We have to say, as bloggers' kids, they come by it honest.

On Saturday night the Mr. and I got all dolled up and went out on a date. I can't remember the last time we did that just us.  We have work events to attend or do things with friends, but for it to be just the two of us is pretty rare.  We went to a nice dinner, did a little shopping, and ended the night with margaritas.  It was super fun and just what we needed.

My green dress is an oldie, but still one of my favorites. I've worn it to weddings with fancy jewelry and shoes, to the beach with flip-flops or on a date night with wedges.  It's so versatile and I love solid colored dresses like this that can be worn just about anywhere. Mine is from years ago, but there are similar ones HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.

On Monday the girls went off to school and I think one of the hardest things as a mom is to send our kids off on the bus and spend the next 7 1/2 hours wondering how their day is going.  Is their teacher making them feel welcome, are they making new friends, who are they sitting with at lunch...  The absolute BEST thing though and a definite favorite of mine this week was seeing them bound off the bus that afternoon with big smiles, telling me all I needed to know.  I'm super hopeful for a great school year for them this year!

Back to school also means back to volunteering.  I love being able to help out at the school and in my kids classes, but it can be a lot.  This week we ramped back up with room mom responsibilities, PTA committees and everything else I can't say no to. :-)

I love my Lilly Pulitzer Callahan shorts.

A few Friday's ago I shared my monogrammed tank from Preppy & Personalized and mentioned that I'd ordered the youth sizes for the girls, too.  Blondie wore hers to school yesterday and looked darling in it.  She also has been loving her new converse, which happened to match perfectly!

And last, but not least, for my favorites this week is spending time with this little guy.  He will be in the "Young 5's" class at the preschool so he has one last year before heading to Kindergarten.  He doesn't start school until Monday so I've been trying to soak up my time with him this week.  We've done lunch dates, he's been my errand running partner, and I'm just really trying to soak it up because next year he'll off and gone all day with the big kids!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, Friends!  Today we're linking up with some of our favorite bloggers for Friday Favorites!  I have a lot of random favorites to share with you this week and lots of fun things for the kiddos.

So, my little guy turned five last weekend and now he is wanting to learn to tie shoes so he can get some with laces for school.  I pulled out our trusty Melissa & Doug Learn to Lace and Tie shoe from the playroom closet so I could start working with him.  He might need velcro forever because after just a few minutes he was ready to move on and do something else, but I love this tool and I know when he is ready to work on it some more this will soon become one of his favorites, too!

Are anyone else's kids obsessed with Rubik's Cubes?  My girls kept talking about then during the school year because a lot of friends in their classes and on the bus had them. Little Mama got one with some birthday money and we went back the next day because as you can see the other two wanted one also.  Here's the thing, my brain just does not work this way.  I have watched YouTube videos and tutorials for how to solve these impossible puzzles and they make it look so easy, but I've accepted that you either get it or you don't.  I thought the 2x2 cube might be easier to solve, but it seems just as hard to me.  While this is not one of my favorites, it has been fun to play with this summer and my kids would definitely say it is their favorite (even if they can't solve it either!).

It's been so brutally hot here and when my kids want to cool off they have loved this giant Discovery Kids beach ball sprinkler.  You just hook it up to a garden hose and it squirts water.  It's so fun for them and they have made up all kids of games using it.  It's a favorite of mine because it buys be a few minutes to get something done knowing they are all happy and entertained.

We have one more week of summer left.  It just seems wrong to start back to school so early, but I can't change it so instead I'm embracing it. One thing I do every year before school starts is order my new Erin Condren planner.

Now, I'm not paid by them and I don't receive free products. I just love their stuff that much and was SO very excited when I went out late one night to let my dog out and saw this on my doorstep!  Even the box is pretty!

I tried having my calendar digital, but I kept missing things and learned that I'm a person that loves to see everything written down.  So call me old school, but I love a paper planner.  This is my 4th Erin Condren planner and to me they are SO worth the cost.  I love personalizing the cover with pictures of my loved ones.

I also love the vertical layout. It helps me to see how my days will go and keeps me organized. Basically this planner is my life.  I always pay the extra $5 to get an 18 month calendar instead of a 12 month calendar so that I can use it for one whole school year. I love being organized and this planner is definitely my favorite!

A few months ago I lost one of my gold hoop earrings and I've been eyeing these Stella & Dot Isadora hoops as a replacement ever since.  I kept putting off ordering them, but finally bit the bullet and I could not be more happy with them!

I love that they are not just plain hoops and the added details give them a little something extra! They are definitely my favorite earrings now and I've worn them pretty much everyday this week!

Speaking of favorite things to wear, this monogrammed tank from Preppy & Personalized has quickly become one of my favorites.  I wore it to little Boo-Boo's birthday party last week and got tons of compliments on it.  Then I posed this picture on my personal Facebook page and had so many friends email or text me to see where I got it.

I had Blondie take another quick pic of me that evening so you could see the front better because I knew I needed to share it with all of you!

A few notes about this tank...
1. It comes in several different colors.
2. This is the navy one, but it is more of a grayish navy color.
3. It's only $31 and so worth it!
4.  It is very generous, size wise. I am wearing the medium.
5. They have girls sizes too and they run pretty big. My girls love theirs and I don't mind that they are larger because they will be able to wear them longer.  For now they just wear a tank under it.
6. I've washed and dried them a few times and they still look great. I was a little worried about the monogram peeling off, but it still looks great!

These aren't the best pics because I took them really late at night, but this Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear nail polish is my new favorite.

Little Mama got it for her birthday last year and I've painted her nails a few times with it.  On a whim I used it on Sunday because I wanted a fun pink color and have had a few people comment on the color since then.  I love the bright pink, but what I love even more is that it has stayed on! My nail polish always starts to chip after a day or so, but this one has lasted much longer.   It's a super cheap bottle of nail polish, but it has stayed on way better than any of my more expensive ones.  Crazy, but I'm planning to buy more of this brand.  I'm wearing it in All Bright and love the color.  Online it looks super neon, but it is more of a bright pink.

One of my favorite moments from this week was taking my kids to the World of Coca-Cola!  We went last summer and had a blast so we decided to go back this summer.  I'll share all about it on Monday if anyone is interested in going, but we had the best time!

Last, but not least, is my favorite pup.  Our sweet golden retriever is 2 years old today!  He's such an important part of our family and we are excited to spoil him with lots of treats, toys, and Frosty Paws today. :-)

Hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!  See you back here on Monday!
