Findlay Rowe Favorites: Holiday Edition

If you've been a long time reader of this blog, it's no secret that we are huge fans of local boutique Findlay Rowe. Over the years we've gotten to know Audrey and Barbara and their sweet staff, and just adore everything in their shop.

A few months ago they asked us to do a series of videos sharing our favorite things. We kicked off our series with a fall edition. Now we have a quick little holiday version.

The fall one we realized we were slightly more serious than we are in real life, so this one we tried to put a little more of our personality into it.

We're sure it was highly entertaining for all the ladies shopping, and those who helped us film a part or two.

But seriously, all the amazing things they have in store it makes our job easy.

Almost too easy.

Especially since we both left with huge bags ourselves.

You know, in the spirit of giving and all.

From us, to us.

(We're totally kidding. Sort of.)

FINDLAY ROWE FAVORITE HOLIDAY THINGS

Here's just a little peek at some of our favorite things we spotted in store, and then check out the video to get a look at our top picks for the holidays and some great gift ideas. And note, so many of the gift ideas are so pretty you don't even have to wrap them...but if something does need wrapping the lovely ladies of Findlay Rowe will do so for you on the spot. Such a great time saver!

Friday Favorites: Holiday Style

Hi Friends, happy Friday!

Whew...the holidays are officially here! We blink and the week is already gone, and we feel like we are on warp speed with all the fun happenings. We are sooooo excited, and have a few fun things to share coming up in the next week or so. We might have a fun goodie or two for you so stay tuned.

Okay today we are going to link up with some of our favorite bloggers for Friday Favorites, but we are going to switch things up a bit. Normally we share a random assortment of our favorite weekly moments or finds. This week though we are going to concentrate on one topic - holiday style!

This weekend kicks off all the holiday events and parties for us, and it's been a constant back and forth on the phone chatting about what we are going to wear, what will look best, etc. We thought it would be fun to kind of bring you in on the conversation and also share some of our favorite styles we've already worn in hopes that if you need a little girlfriend help this year too, we've got your back! Your sequined bedazzled stylish back! ;)

GLAM

There is something about the holiday season that just makes us want to put sequins on ourselves from head to toe! We had to do a holiday photoshoot early last month, and it was so much fun getting all glammed up.

We had so much fun shopping for holiday attire together, and snagged this gorgeous gold dress and this fun red jumpsuit for less than $100!

All we have to do is add our favorite red lip stick, a few fun accessories and we are super glam for any holiday event.

We have been itching to wear them again, and can't wait to break them out at holiday parties coming up because in these looks we are soooo ready!

The exact red jumpsuit is currently sold out, but this one and this one are super similar!

| Gold Dress | Leopard Heels

MAD ABOUT PLAID

Plaid is one of our favorite patterns to incorporate into our holiday style. From traditional tartan to ginghams - we love it all! We try to look for pieces that are versatile. And that's key when you need to be at the Preschool holiday program one minute and a evening holiday dinner the next.

We want items that are festive for any holiday event, but that work for our lifestyle. Plaid is one of the easiest ways to look holiday ready.

| Tartan Top | Quilted Vest | Jeans | Boots
This next plaid has been so easy to take from day to night. Just a flip of a shoe from a boot to a heel and you are ready for any style of holiday celebration.

| Hooded Faux Fur Vest | Plaid Top | Black Jeans | Boots | Statement Necklace | Earrings

Also, if you are a fan of this Hooded Faux Fur Vest let us know. We have some discount codes that we received from the retailer. It's already pretty inexpensive and this would make it super cheap! Just leave us a comment or send us an email and we will send you a special code.

This tartan plaid hooded vest has been one of our favorite fall finds, and is perfectly weighted for winter too! It adds just a little pop of fun to a casual holiday outfit.

| Puffer Vest | Sweater | Jeans | Wedges | Dress | Pom Pom Boots |
(Bonus: most of this look is currently on sale!)

And this fun plaid top was a find from last year, but we've spotted so many plaid tops in similar styles you will easily be able to recreate the same holiday look. The over-the-knee boots and the pop of red tote complete this holiday ready look.

LITTLE BLACK DRESS...OR PANTS

A classic go-to will always be a little black dress. But dress or pants - head to toe black will always be chic. We love this look for any event, but for the holiday season it makes getting dressed oh so easy. All you have to do is add a fun accessory or a little pop of color and you are all set to go. Such an effortless way to holiday.

We have hopped on board the faux fur vest trend in a major way, and love love love this fun blush colored vest! It's so cozy and is such a fun piece to add a little something extra to any outfit, and we love it partnered with all black and metallic accessories to make it a little more holiday ready.

Not to mention the comfortable factor of this outfit is on another level. From the softest tunic shirt ever made to the comfiest of ballet flats to the stretchy jeans - we could live in this outfit forever and not complain once!

| Vest | Tunic Top | Jeans | Silver Ballet Flats

(Same note as above - if you like the vest, let us know and we will send a coupon code to you!)

Sorry, not sorry about another faux fur vest.

We warned you we were on the faux fur train, and we don't see us getting off anytime soon.

| Vest (similar) | Over-the-knee boots | Leggings |

| Black Dress | Leopard Heels | Gold Crossbody Bag |

Sorry for the mirror selfie on this one, but this little black dress has been worn many a time. It is our go-to LBD for any event we have. It is super flattering and has the best back zipper detail. It's currently on sale and definitely is worth an "add to cart".

Some of our other favorite LBD/LBP looks...

5. Ponte Sheath Dress (under $30!)

That wraps up our holiday style guide! Do you have a favorite look?

Now off to grab some champagne and make the holiday rounds.
Happy weekend everyone!

Christmas Home Tour 2018

I don't know about y'all, but my very favorite time to decorate is at Christmas!!!  I just love how cozy everything feels with twinkling lights on the tree, cozy blankets on the couch, and lit candles making my house smell so good.  I truly enjoy seeing other people's Christmas decorations, so I thought I would share some of my decorations with all of you today!

I always love decorating the front porch and when we were building our house I knew that a big wrap-around front porch was on my must-have list. I couldn't wait to decorate it with garland each Christmas and it is still one of my favorite things about my Christmas decor.

I used to use outdoor Command Hooks to attach the garland to the porch and sometimes they would fall so this year the Mr. suggested that I use real hooks.  It took me a while to get them all in and my fingers were frozen by the time I finished, but I just kept thinking about how easy it would be year after year now that I can just hang the garland on it and be done!

I do use the outdoor Command Hooks on the transom above the door and because they are clear I just keep them up year round.

These sweet little deer are always fun to pull out each year and I have the best memories of the kids sitting on them for pictures when they were little.

I got these plaid outdoor pillows at Walmart this year for only $5 each!  They only had two at my local store so I grabbed what I could.

You'll notice that I have a ton of nutcrackers that I use all over.  They used to belong to my mother-in-law, but she passed them on to me when they moved and now I love placing them all over. The kids love playing with them and I just love all of the intricate details and seeing how each one is different.

We have always had a real tree, but this year we decided to go with an artificial one. I went back and forth about getting a flocked tree, but I'm so happy that I ended up getting it.

I love it so much and feel like all of our ornaments stand out so much more on it.  I've said it before, but we don't have a "designer tree." Instead we have ornaments that have been collected over the years. Some from mine and the Mr.'s childhood, ornaments the kids have made at school, ornaments that were gifts from friends and some that we have collected on travels. Each one has a story and a memory with it and I love that about our tree.

Each of the kids have a small Christmas tree in their rooms.  On it they have some of their special ornaments and I let them have total free reign when it comes to their trees.

Little Mama loves decorating hers, Blondie throws a few ornaments on and says she is done and my little guy just LOVES putting ornaments all over his tree, but they are generally all clumped in together.

I have collected so much over the years that pretty much every table top, mantle and counter have little touches of Christmas. I usually pack up most of my regular decor things and put out everything Christmas. This canvas painting was a gift from our sweet neighbors that I just adore!

I also have a lot of old photographs of the kids with Santa that I like to put out.

In our dining room and in other areas of the house I add red berry sprigs to greenery arrangements that I already have to give it a wintery Christmas feel.

The playroom is full of the kids Christmas artwork and special things that they have made over the years along with some fun singing snowmen. And, of course our Elf, so cleverly named Elfie, always seems to find himself a spot around the house, too!

I just truly love this time of year and how special the house feels every time we come home. I like to sit in the living room each night by myself with all the lights off except the Christmas tree.  The house always feels so bare after taking it all down so I try to soak it up and enjoy it while I can!

Do you love decorating for Christmas?  Have any special traditions or pieces that have been passed on to you?

7 Ways to De-Stress Your Holiday

This post is sponsored by Wente Vineyards but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

This time of year is so magical! We love the excitement the holidays bring with them, and we try to soak it all in as much as possible. But, that's not always easy. The holidays can be overwhelming too. The parties, the school functions, holiday cards, the shopping, wrapping gifts, decorating, maintaining traditions...and the list goes on and on and on. All normally fun things, but when compounded on top of one another it can get a bit tricky and stressful.

And we've been there. In a major way.

We've been that person multiple times on Christmas Eve frantically trying to holiday shop at the last minute (and if we're honest, we'll be that person again this year too.). We've been the person who volunteers to host a gathering and then wonder when we are going to have time to make the house presentable before people come over. We've been the person to try to create the best Pinterest worthy treat for the classroom holiday party only for it to epically fail last minute and then resort to plan B (side note: when in distress donuts always win the hearts of little kids everywhere).

It all gets to be a lot. And you still have to factor in everyday normal life activities too.

All the stress makes you lose sight of what the holiday season truly is about - enjoying making memories with friends and family. Spending quality time with loved ones is what matters most.

This year we've tried to make a conscientious effort to minimize the stress, and simply enjoy the magic of the season. Our goal was to spend more quality time with our family and friends, and less time running around doing literally all the holiday things. We've made little tweaks to our "normal" holiday routine, and so far this season has been one of the least stressful yet.

Circle back around to us on December 23rd and we might be rocking a different tune, but so far we're surviving and our holiday season is much less stressful in comparison to years past.

7 WAYS TO DE-STRESS YOUR HOLIDAY

1. Plan ahead. Buy ahead. Get ahead.
Okay this tip seems simple in theory. Because it is. One of the easiest ways to eliminate holidays stress is to start planning for the holidays early, and buy your gifts early. Running around shopping can be a huge time suck, and in the moment shopping can be stressful. Utilize all those early holiday sales and try to buy gifts as you see them throughout the year instead of just a one month span of time. Not having to run around battling other crazed holiday shoppers and frantically trying to check everyone off your list will do wonders for your mental health.

This tip was HUGE for us! We knocked out most of our holiday shopping the week of Thanksgiving Break. We made an effort to plan ahead, get our gift lists together early without the distraction of other holiday responsibilities, and managed to get 75% of our lists finished. It feels so good to know we can knock out the last few items on our list while we are just out and about in our normal routines. It's early December people - there's still time!

2: Realize you don't have to make all the holiday things.
Okay, we get it. It's so hard not to scroll through Pinterest and want to make the most swoon worthy holiday meal. But, unless you naturally are a whiz in the kitchen, trying to make a ton of new trendy recipes can be overwhelming.

There's no shame in sticking with traditions and crafting a meal out of taste-tested family approved recipes going back ten generations rather than the latest Whole 30 friendly recipe you pinned last week.

There's also no shame in purchasing pre-made food, having your meal catered, or opting for a pot luck style dinner.

Kick back, grab a glass of your favorite wine, and choose to soak in the memories being made around you - not in coconut oil vegan-friendly candy yams you've attempted. The less stressed about the actual meal you are, the more you can enjoy the actual meal with your family.

3: Outsource where you can.
Be a good holiday manager and outsource like the mom boss that you are! Delegate where you can so that you can free yourself to enjoy the season. Can gifts be ordered and delivered to your doorstep? Click away my friend!  Do you have a new teenage driver who can pick up an online order for you from the store? Utilize them! Been wanting to try out that new grocery delivery app? Do it!

4: Schedule special time with special friends.
Sure you'll see your bestie at the holiday party next weekend, or you have that cookie exchange at the end of the month, but outside all of that - schedule just plain old relaxing time with your closest girlfriends. A little quality time outside of the holiday chaos and large crowds can do wonders for the soul.

Throw on some pjs, grab a bottle of chardonnay (this Wente Vineyards Chardonnay is our new favorite!), and for one hour put the holiday to-do list on the back burner.

5. Just say no.
This one is tough for us, and a problem we have in life in general and not just the limited holiday season. But sometimes the least stressful route is just saying no. Really think about what activities you want to participate in and say no to anything extra that might contribute to making the holiday less enjoyable. If you get invited to two events that overlap one another or are at the same time, really sit down and think which one you would get to spend more quality time with the people you love or that would result in more enjoyable evening. The "no" part is tough on the front end, but usually worth it on the back end.

6. Fake it so you make it.
Okay so we are all team #realtree, but this year we both went to the dark side and purchased artificial trees. Having young children, curious pets, and limited free time to continuously clean the same thing over and over again (We're talking about you gorgeous Frasier Fir who likes to shed the moment we bring your evergreen smelling goodness into our homes).

Best. decision. ever.

Now we spend less time cleaning and watering, and more time basking in its lit up glory with our little ones.

So grab your favorite holiday scented candle, put away your vacuum (you know, after you get those crumbs from dinner), and enjoy your pine needle free evening.

7. Make time for you!
You hear it all the time mamas, but make time for you. Especially during the holidays. Take an hour and actually go to your favorite workout class. Take thirty minutes, grab your latest book club read a glass of wine and sit in your favorite chair to tune it all out. Take ten minutes to jam out to your favorite songs. Get a mani pedi. Scroll through social media on your phone while munching holiday cookies your neighbor dropped off.

Do something for you! Taking those few precious moments to tune out the holiday chaos around you and recharge yourself can do wonders. Even five minutes a day can make a huge difference when you feel like your holiday to-do list is never ending.
