Ski Trip in Breckenridge {Part 2}

Yesterday I shared about the first part of our ski trip to Breckenridge. (If you missed it, click HERE to read.) Today I'm going to continue with the second part of our trip.  On our third day of skiing we no longer had the kids in ski school so that meant all of us were on our own.  The kids had learned a lot on their first two days and they were doing so well that we didn't think it would be a problem for us all to ski together.  Well, let's just say that keeping up with 3 kids on the mountain is a workout, but totally fun.  At one point Mr. commented that the money we spent on private lessons was totally worth it.  Coach Chris certainly earned his pay!  We spent the morning doing the same green runs that they had become accustomed to. It was familiar, it was now easy for them, and it was fun.

We ventured up a few different lifts that went to some other runs on the mountain and then Mr. decided that it was time to take it up a notch and head to the blues.  For anyone not familiar with skiing the runs are categorized as green (easiest - wide, groomed, not steep), blue (intermediate - a little steeper and slightly more challenging), black (advanced - what Mr. prefers) and double black (expert only - also what Mr. prefers). I was hesitant, but the kids were doing so well I figured why not.  Being up a little higher on the mountain gave us beautiful views and the girls posed for a quick picture before we started down.  This would also be the last smiles any of us would have on our face.

I think we had several things working against us on this run. It was almost lunch time so the kids were hungry, complaining, tired from skiing all morning, and just not digging it.  I spent more time taking my skis off so I could help one of the kids who had fallen than I did with them on.  It.was.bad. By the time we made it down the mountain I was wondering who in the world came up with that brilliant idea. ;-) Needless to say, we headed back to the condo for lunch and decided to take a break from skiing for the rest of the afternoon.  Instead of heading back out on the slopes, we made the short drive to Frisco Adventure Park to do a little tubing!

We signed wavers, watched a safety video, grabbed our tubes and got ready for fun.  This afternoon was incredibly warm, so a lot of the snow was starting to melt on the hill and turn to slush.  The attendants told us this would slow the tubes down a bunch, but we still had fun.  They had a magic carpet that took you up the hill.

Then there were five lanes to choose from on the tubing hill. You could ride solo, or hold on to other tubes to slide down together. We did this most of the time, because it made us go faster.

That evening guys planned a nice night for the adults.  They ordered pizza for the kids and got them all settled in and ready for bed.  Our neighbor's nanny, who was on the trip with us, stayed with the kids while the adults went out for a nice dinner.  Our condo was just a 5 minute walk to the heart of Breckenridge, so it made it easy to get to and from shops and restaurants by foot.  I loved walking around at night because there were Christmas lights in all of the trees lining the streets through town and it looked so pretty with the snow.

The next day was our last day skiing and we wanted to make the most of it.  We started bright and early and skied all day. One of the most stressful parts of skiing with the kids was getting everyone onto the lifts.  Navigating on skis isn't easy and at the kids did great, but they were slow at times.  When it was our turn to hop on the lift you have to ski forward to the loading line and wait for the quick moving lift.  I was always worried one of us wouldn't be up to the line in time, that someone's skis would get tripped and tangled up or that one of the kids wouldn't be able to hop in the seat.  Thankfully, the attendants working the lifts were super helpful 99% of the time.  They would help grab the kids and give them a boost up and slow down the lift, if needed.  After I knew we were all settled and on our way up the mountain I would sigh a big sigh of relief.

We spent a few runs on the green slope the kids loved and they showed off their skills on the kid's obstacle course.

Then we made the decision to head back up the mountain to the blue runs and see if we had better luck this day.  It could have been really bad again, but instead if was amazing!  They kids did SO well and loved every second.  We only had one or two falls, and it was no big deal.  I'm so glad we were successful because it made the rest of the day fun knowing we could go to other parts of the mountain and explore other blue runs with the kids.  I couldn't believe that on their 4th day of skiing ever that we were all skiing blue runs together.  It was SO much fun for me seeing them have SO much fun. This was the most fun I have ever had skiing and I think it's because we were all able to do it together.  It will definitely be something that we continue doing each year, for years to come.

For our last evening we walked into town and found a pizza place to eat dinner.  While we were eating it had started to snow and on the walk back it felt like a blizzard. It was windy, cold and snowy.  Our feet were wet and it was hard to see with snow flying into our faces, but it was fun and memorable.  So much so that we stopped to snap a picture in front of some of the lights on the way back.

As soon as we got back into the lobby of the condo the kids ran over to the fireplace to try to warm up. When we dragged them away from that, we went to the condo and turned on our fire place.  They all sat there with hot chocolate to warm up and soak up the last bit of our night.  It was perfect!

Our friends left the next morning, but our flight wasn't until the next evening so we had a whole day to sightsee and explore.  Be sure to check back tomorrow for picture and details about that day!

Ski Trip in Breckenridge {Part 1}

Oh Monday!  I just don't love you like I do Friday, but I'm still looking forward to this week and all that it holds!  This week I am going to share a little bit about our ski trip to Breckenridge a few weeks ago.  It was the first time we had been skiing as a family of five and we knew that the kids' Winter Break from school would be the perfect opportunity for this type of vacation.  I can't believe I'm even going to say this, but it was probably the BEST family vacation we have been on.  Everyone had so much fun and Breckenridge was the perfect spot for our trip. We loved that it was so family friendly great for skiers of all ages and abilities.

A little back story, the Mr. LOVES to ski.  Like it is one of his very favorite things to do and he goes once a year with friends who also love skiing as much as he does.  I do not usually love skiing. I generally enjoy it for a few runs, but I don't like being cold and I always end up with numb fingers and toes.  We used to go once a year, but the last time we went and took the kids was when Little Mama was 3 and Blondie was 18 months.  Little Mama skied just a bit, but only with the Mr. holding on to her, so we didn't really count it.  We've been wanting to take all of the kids for a while now, but wanted to wait until Boo-Boo was old enough for us all to enjoy it.  Well, this year was the year and we had been looking forward to this trip for months.  We went with some of our neighbors and their children, so it was going to be a fun trip for everyone!

Our kids have only flown a few times and this flight was certainly the longest one in a while, but they were excited for the flight and they did amazing!

I bought a few new movies on the iPads and that, along with the snacks and drinks on the plane, kept everyone entertained.

We arrived late Saturday night and spend the next day getting acquainted with the area and we also got to sneak in a visit with the Mr.'s brother and his family who live in Colorado.  It was at that visit that little miss Blondie lost one of her Ugg boots in waist deep powder snow while the kids were playing outside.  I know it sounds crazy and you would think we could have certainly recovered the boot, but we looked and looked with no luck.  The snow was so deep that it was just gone. I'm sure someone will find a cute, size 2, teal Ugg boot in the spring win the snow melts.  Thankfully I got those boots at a consignment sale for $15, but still.  It was the only pair of shoes she had on the trip with us, so a quick trip to Wal-Mart and we had a $7 replacement for her. Shortly after that she lost a tooth in the car on the way to check in our condo.  Talk about an eventful day for her!

After getting settled into our condo and grabbing some groceries for the week, that evening we went to rent our skis.  I just could not get over how cute Boo-Boo looked with his teeny-tiny skis.  We stayed in a ski-in/ski-out condo so it was only a short walk to the slopes and the the ski village.  It's not easy carrying around all of the gear, but everyone were troopers.

The next morning was our first day on the slopes and the kids were all excited about getting out on their skis. We signed them up for ski school with a private instructor (along with our neighbors who were on the trip with us) and they were looking forward to learning lots!

Once they were settled with their instructor, the Mr. and I went off on our way to do a little skiing and get acquainted with the mountain.

We met up with the kids and their instructor for lunch and then they were ready to leave the learning hill and head up the mountain to the big green run.  We followed them up on the lifts because we were so proud and couldn't wait to see them in action.  They couldn't wait to show us what they had learned all morning.  They did amazing and we were all so proud.

They were like little ducks in a row behind their instructor and followed along with him everywhere he went.

We basically repeated the first day of skiing on day 2 and it couldn't have gone better.  The sun was shining, the kids were happy, and we were SO thankful to their instructor, Chris.  He was really great with all of the kids and taught them so much in just two days. It was worth every penny and we would 100% recommend the ski school at Breckenridge.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for some more details and pictures from our trip!

Friday Favorites

Hello Friday! I am so glad you are here!!!

This was one busy week, and I am so glad the weekend has arrived. I feel like Monday to Thursday this week was like running a marathon. Throw in a few refuels at Chick-fil-a, a husband with a workout injury, and having spend our days/nights chasing three children at the soccer field it's almost the same, right???

Hey, at least I look the part. :)

In the midst of chaos, I had a ton of favorites this week. Linking up as always with some of our favorite bloggers and sharing my top ones with you guys...

ONE
One great thing about having kids is that they constantly are surprising me. Cute is the sweetest, most loving little person on this planet. He has been struggling lately with writing (more on this later), so when he popped into Baby Cute's room to give me this...

...my heart swooned!
He said "Mommy, I drew a heart for you. I love you.", and then took off. It is totally my top favorite of this week, and I might keep this little heart drawing forever!

TWO
I fell in love with Jojo Moyes last year when I read Me Before You. It was such a great book and I am so excited to learn that it is becoming a movie this year! I can not wait to grab by girlfriends (and a box of tissues), and go see it!

In addition to the book club book last month, I was able to sneak in a few other books. A few of them I absolutely loved. Normally I don't have as much free time to read as I would like, but now that I am up at all hours of the night I am getting a ton of reading time in. I just load them onto my Kindle app and read/nurse away. I didn't hesitate to grab another one of Moyes' books. I read The Last Letter From Your Lover, and it was SO good! I finished in just a few days.

Another one of my favorites was The Siren by Kiera Cass. Not being one to shy away from a little Teen Lit every now and then, I loved reading her Selection series last year. This book was a little different, but it was an easy read, and can totally picture my girls loving reading it as they get older.

THREE
These Clif Bars definitely make my favorites list! These have been my go-to snack since Baby Cute was born. Oh my, one word - YUM! I forgot how hungry you get nursing and these have been a life saver while I am on the go, and need something quick to eat. I just throw them in my diaper bag and go!

And coconut and brownie will always win in my book. Always.

FOUR
A huge favorite of mine this week was my Roomba! My super sweet husband purchased one for me for Valentine's Day, and while he felt it wasn't quite the most romantic gift in the world, it certainly speaks to one of my love languages - the language of clean floors. He spoke with Carrie Beth about it, and she convinced him it was a great idea. See - that's what best friends are for. They have your back and your floors. ;)

I had already received some beautiful flowers, so I thought that was my gift. I was pleasantly shocked when this showed up on my doorstep. Instantly, I have fallen in love! Carrie Beth's review was spot on, and I couldn't agree more with how nice it is to not have to vacuum dog hair 2-3 times a day! It just does it's business and I don't have to think twice about it.

For the first few days the kids (and maybe Mr. Cute) were mesmerized at how it cleaned. I am just mesmerized by my ability to now multi task (even more).

Bring on cleaner floors!!

FIVE
The weather! I am so excited for the upcoming forecast - check out those temps!

Hi Spring!
You are most welcome. Kick your feet back and stay awhile.

And warm temps have me day dreaming about shorts...

Just a few pairs I have my eye on for when the temps turn for good!

(Click pics for info.)

And what are cute shorts without adorable sandals...

This warm weather loving Southerner can not wait!

That wraps up my week. What are some of your favorites this week?

Happy weekend everyone!!

Easter Wreaths {Ready for Spring}

I can hardly believe we are already into March.  Earlier this week it felt SO nice and warm. On Sunday afternoon after church the kids changed into play clothes and I sent them outside to play. I had to drag them in for dinner when it got dark.  Don't you just love days like that. We grilled out for dinner that evening and the whole day made me think of the lazy days of summer. That warm weather also got me excited for Spring and all that it holds, including Easter!  I spent Sunday afternoon pulling out my Easter decorations, while Walker stood guard.

I don't do too much for Easter decorations, but I always like to do a little something for each holiday inside and on the porch.  My Easter wreaths are, by far, my very favorite front door decor that I own. I just love those little bunnies, the felt flowers, and the lace they are hanging by.

I made these wreaths last year and it was really so simple.  If you want to try your hand at making your own you can check out the tutorial I wrote last year HERE.

One thing I love most about our house is the big wraparound porch. I've always wanted a big front porch and it makes me so happy to sit out here and watch the kids play.  of course, having some cute decorations on the porch make it even more enjoyable.

Inside I changed our chalkboard message. I might change it again, but for now at least it doesn't say Happy Valentine's Day, which is what was up until this week. Yikes!

Besides putting some jellybeans in a dish the only other decorating I do for Easter is putting out a few of my other favorite little things.

Around the house I have several little signs of Spring.  Walking past my dining room and seeing the sun shining in on these bright green boxwood sprigs just makes me smile.

On the kitchen table I added lemons to my dough bowl.  That along with my yellow pillows just make things brighter and more cheery!

And speaking of happy yellow things, just a few days ago the daffodils that randomly appeared last year popped up again.  It is a goal of mine to one day have a beautiful flower garden where I can constantly have fresh flowers in my kitchen, but for now I will just have to settle for these lovelies that grow without any help from yours truly.

Dr. Seuss Snack {Green Eggs & Ham}

Want a little tidbit of trivia for this Wednesday morning?  Today is the birthday of the famous author we all know and love, Dr. Seuss.  We all grew up reading books like Green Eggs & Ham, The Cat in the Hat, The Lorax and so many other beloved titles.  I love the silly rhythm and rhyme of so many of Dr. Seuess' books and love sharing them with the kids.  A lot of schools celebrate the late author's birthday with a special tribute and day of reading.  They will read books, do crafts, and have special snacks to celebrate.

When Boo-Boo's teacher told me they would be celebrating Dr. Seuss this week at school I was so excited.  His teachers even ordered special shirts for the kids to wear today.

They asked for volunteers to make snacks to go along with the themes and books they would be reading each day.  I was happy to help her out, especially since this treat is so similar to the one my kids already loved at Christmas time (HERE).

Green Eggs & Ham Pretzel Bites
Ingredients
waffle pretzels
M&M's
white candy melts (found at craft stores)

Directions
1. Sort green M&M's into a separate bowl. (The perfect job for preschoolers!)

2. Lay waffle pretzels flat on cookie sheet and place a white candy melt on each pretzel.

3. Warm in 250 degree oven for 4-5 minutes, just long enough so the candy melts begin to soften.
5. Remove from oven and place a green M&M on top of each candy melt.
6. Allow to cool on the counter (or speed cooling in the fridge) and enjoy!

Book Club: March

Book club day! For February's book club we chose Jennifer Weiner's Who Do You Love. We've loved some of Weiner's books in the past (Good In Bed, Certain Girls and several others), and looked forward to jumping into this one. Weiner also cracks us up on twitter with her live tweeting during the Bachelor/Bachelorette - definitely fun to follow if you like watching the show. As always, here are our thoughts and we can wait to hear yours!

Jen's Review:
I have mixed opinions on this book. Normally I love Jennifer Weiner's novels, but I found this one hard to get into at points. Part of that could have been because I was sleep deprived and with dealing with a newborn. Ultimately I loved the characters and really wanted Rachel and Andy to end up together. Even though they were both flawed I felt like it was adorable that they found each other after that first childhood meeting in the ER.

Following them across their lives, both together and apart, was interesting. It was great to see how their childhoods molded them into what they became as adults. I was a little shocked (disappointed??) more so at Andy's character throughout the book than I was in Rachel's, but again it shows how people are flawed and often make choices they know aren't ultimately right.

The end kind of surprised me too. I figured out that they would more than like cross paths again, but was surprised at how it ended (don't want to give away any spoilers). And then it just ended? My guess is we had followed their journey enough to know how it was going to continue, but still I needed just a little bit more of a happy ending. At least more than love in a Home Depot. :)

Would I recommend it? I am mixed still. It wasn't a page turner that kept me up all night, but at some points I felt invested.

Now to Discuss: Did you enjoy the novel? What did you think of Rachel's childhood and how it affected her decisions/choices as she became older? What did you think of Andy and Rachel's relationship?
