Mommy Maintenance : EVER Skincare and Make-up

It's been a while since we've written a Mommy Maintenance post, but it's one of those topics that is our favorite to discuss.  All of us mamas need a little "me" time once and a while and doing things for ourselves that help us look and feel better is well deserved for all hard working moms.

Today we're dishing all about EVER, a skincare and make-up line that is made with good-for-you ingredients, but also has the science to back up it's products.  So not only do they work, but they are made without any of the bad stuff.  We both gave a few of their products and try and couldn't wait to share what we thought!

What Carrie Beth Tried...

Some of you might have used EVER's skincare products or at least heard of them before, but did y'all know they now have a make-up line also?  We were so excited to learn this because we are lovers of make-up and beauty products, but want to use products that are not harmful or full of chemicals.

I tried the Color Quickie set that basically includes an eye and check palette, mascara, and lip gloss.

Our friend, Amy, suggested that the Elegant and Empowered Out The Door palette and then I went with the Rose Nude gloss. I must say, these are colors I never would have chosen for myself because I always tend to go more for the pink blush and lips, but I REALLY love it.

The Out The Door palette does just what the name suggests.  It is made up of eye and check colors that are designed to highlight your natural beauty and get you out the door fast!  It comes with a guide that suggests how to wear the various colors together and how to apply, which I really appreciated and learned something from. I really love how natural it all looks, but I still feel put together and made up.

The Flash power plumping gloss does just that...adds a bit of color and shine to you lips and you an literally feel the plumping action when you apply.  The Whiplash volumizing mascara has been great because it really makes your lashes look longer and thicker, without being clumpy or smearing on my eyelids or under my eyes after a long day.

Last, but not least, I tried a sample of this Daylight Tinted Moisturizer and just placed my order for a full size bottle.  I love that it has SPF and I plan on wearing it as a light foundation all spring and summer.  The best part about it is that it smells AMAZING!!!

What Jen Tried...
The last few years I've really tried to pay more attention to my skincare routine, and what I need most to keep my skin in the best shape possible.  I tend to lean towards cleaner all natural products, so when Amy asked if we wanted to try a few things from EVER's line I was so excited to learn more about their popular clean beauty line.

After pouring over EVER's website and information I decided to test out some of their most popular skin care items. Both the Reveal Biomimetic Peel Pads and the Lavish Body Butter have rave reviews!

The purpose of the Reveal pads is to help firm, smooth and re-texturize skin without irritating it. For me this is key! As I (ahem) age, I've noticed my skin is beginning to loose it's elasticity. Anything that is willing to help counterbalance all that damage I did to myself in my 20's (here's looking at you baby oil and tanning beds), I'm in. I've tried a few other products that promise similar results, but let's just say my skin was a little sensitive and those didn't go over too well.

The pads were named part of Allure's Best of Beauty awards in 2015 and 2016. Between that backing and that they have great reviews for all skin types, I was willing to give it a try.

I'm so glad that I did! Amy warned me that if I have more sensitive skin to use these lightly and no more than 3 times a week to start. I typically have clear skin with a sightly dryer complexion. I've been using them for about two weeks now, and am loving the results so far.

I do a quick swipe with one of the pads after I wash my face and then follow up with my night serum and a moisturizer. Even after the first use I've noticed my skin feels firmer and smoother. I tested using the pads on back to back nights, but it definitely made my skin feel a little dryer, so I have continued to use them every other day like Amy suggested and I think that is the perfect balance.

I'm definitely curious now after giving the Reveal Pads a try - and seeing the great results - what it would be like to do EVER's full Pure Results Regimen. The pads are the second step, but they have a whole coordinating line!

My biggest skincare complaint is dry skin. In the winter, I'm constantly combatting dry itchy skin between battling the elements and the constant hand washing routine that comes with those germy heightened months. In the summer months, between the chlorine and 1,000,000 SPF I now wear that takes a week to scrape off, my skin also tends to need extra moisture. When I read about EVER's Lavish Body Butter I couldn't wait to try it.

How has this not been in my life earlier?! Holy moly, I was missing out! Not only does it feel ah-mazing, it smells amazing too!

The tiniest little bit goes a long way, and my skin has never felt more moisturized. I totally agree with Allure magazine and all the reviewers who rated Lavish a top product. I want to roll in it and soak in it's luxuriousness every single day.

Lavish is definitely one of my favorite new skin care products, and unless someone else can come up with a better magical moisturizing cream one I think this is one I will now use for life!

Friday Favorites: The Masters Edition

Happy Friday!  While Jen has been off on a Spring Break adventure this week, my family did some fun stuff closer to home.  The Mr. and I were able to sneak away for a few days for one of our favorite experiences...The Masters!  Today's Friday Favorites are all about our time there.

First up is where we got to stay...our accommodations were incredible and The Ritz Carlton at Reynolds Plantation, Lake Oconee might be my favorite hotel ever.  From the moment you arrive you don't feel like you are at a fancy hotel, but rather one that offers a cozy and welcoming environment.  Don't get me wrong, it is super nice, but it just has an elegant and upscale southern feel that doesn't seem fussy.

I love the grounds, I love the decor, and the amazing views (which I somehow got no pictures of).  Jen visited this hotel around Christmas time with her kids and also had an amazing experience! I really want to take my kids back this summer.

On our first day the guys played golf and the girls visited the spa, but then we had the afternoon to enjoy the beautiful weather.  We sat lakeside, sipped Prosecco and just enjoyed each other's company. I was so thankful for the amazingly warm weather because it meant I could wear some of my new spring favorites!

Some of our loyal readers might remember this post when I was gushing over my Target knock-off Birkenstocks or "Fakeinstocks" like my girls call them. I have really bad plantar fasciitis and have a hard time wearing flat shoes and sandals with no support so when I found these from Target I started wearing them non-stop and it made all of my foot pain go away!

Well, I decided to use a gift card I had to buy the real deal since they are making such a come back. I had had my eye on these black patent leather ones for months and finally bit the bullet when I saw all sizes were restocked.  I'm seriously in love with them and want them in pretty much every color now. I loved the black patent though because I felt like they could be dressed up or down.  These are definitely my new favorite shoes for spring and summer.

I admired in our last Book Club post that I had little to no time to read last month.  Well, I made sure to sneak in a little time on this trip and this book is a real page turner.  Behind Closed Doors sort of reminds me of The Last Mrs. Parish and I can't wait to see how it all ends. These kind of books are always my favorites.

We woke up bright and early on Wednesday morning ready to head over to Augusta.  Being so lucky to have Berckmans Place passes we knew we would enjoy our day both on and off the golf course!  The excitement and anticipation on the drive over was so much fun!

The Masters is "a tradition unlike any other" and the history that goes along with it is unmatched. As you arrive you must say goodbye to all phones and electronic devises.  Kind of hard to do for someone like me who wants to capture every single moment, but thankfully we were able to bring cameras since it was a practice round day.

One of my favorite things about The Masters are all of the azaleas! The grounds are just beautiful and someone they manage to have every single azalea in full bloom.

Mine at home are just starting to bloom, but everywhere you turn here they are gorgeous!!!

Walking the course and seeing all of the famous holes in person that you see on TV is so much fun!  They are so beautiful!  I wish my yard could look like this. :-)

We enjoyed walking around, seeing the course, and some the fun sights on the property...

...like the leader board. I love that in our very digital world, they still do things the old school way and someone is constantly changing the board, by hand, to update patrons of how the golfers are doing.

We saw a lot of the big names...Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Ricky Fowler and my personal favorite, Jordan Spieth!

Last, but not least for today is a car I spotted outside our hotel just as we were getting ready to leave.  I had to snap a pic and send it to my daughter, who loves all things Simply Southern...just as any other tween does.  I told her I'd found her first car!  Seriously though, how fun is this?!?!

Dinner Time Wins

Okay, long time readers know my thoughts on dinner. If you're new here, well, let's just say dinner isn't my forte. Throw in a crazy amount of after school commitments, a husband who travels often, and life in general, making a culinary display that would make Paula Deen proud just isn't going to happen. But that doesn't mean I can't still win at meal time.

I was recently given the chance to rest run Applebee's Carside To Go. For the busy mom on the constant run, a life saver.

I'm sure there are other restaurants and services like this, so please share! Let this mom in on your secret. Share your ways with me. Because, now, now that I know I can please everyone in my family with a click of a button and by pass the CFA at least once a week, I will most definitely be all about it.

Side bar: totally never breaking up with CFA. I mean that would be sacrilegious here in the South. Children would revolt. My husband wouldn't get to complain that his wife and children singlehandedly used all his money to build the local one from the ground up. And paid for the recent remodel. There would be an oversupply of Frosted Sunrises and stocks would plummet. It would be general anarchy and we can't have that.

But the ability to have fast food that isn't so "fast food"? That's a win for sure. Dishing on my thoughts about Applebee's Carside To Go service with Savvy Sassy Moms. Popover to check out How to Win at Mealtime and let me know some of your tips to make it through this crazy part of our day.

Book Club: April

Happy April Book Club everyone! This book club is a special one because it hits while we are on Spring Break. Wahoo! Although Spring Break these days is more sand castles and sunscreen, and less tanning oil and tequila shots.

We wouldn't change a thing, and this kind of Spring Break lends to a lot more reading time. You know because the family that hotels together goes to bed together, and as certified night owls we are very thankful our Kindles shine bright past 8p.m.

Seriously though, we are so glad to have a break and slow things way down. March kind of got away from us. This week we are a little bit all over the place with our plans, but (and that's a huge one) thank goodness the break has allowed us to take school and extra circulars out of the mix.

Now (virtual) cheers everyone, and here we go with this month's Book Club!

WHAT WE READ...

CARRIE BETH
I had big intentions this month, but it was a crazy one!  Between PTA responsibilities, sports mom responsibilities, and just trying to keep up with the blog and the house and the kids and the dog...there was little to no time to read.  When I climbed into bed each night I was asleep before I could even think about pulling out my book.  My goal next month...more reading time!

JEN

It's official, Spring sports season has taken over our lives and unfortunately reading while driving is frowned upon. And occasionally we're expected to cheer and sing our praises to our children. So reading has taken a back burner. But I still managed to squeak out three books this month.

First up was JoJo Moyes' Still Me. I remember reading Me Before You and loving it! I vaguely remember the sequel Me After You and feeling kind of "eh" about it, and then forgot about it.  When I saw Still Me had been released I couldn't wait to see how it all wrapped up. After reading it, I think the first one was still my favorite and then this one would be next. It moved slow at parts for me, and parts were a little predictable, but I loved how it ended and I felt like Louisa's story is finally done.

The second book I read for the month was The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo. I am so torn on how I feel about this book. It is about Lucy and Gabe who meet and at school in NYC on September 11th. Instantly they have a connection, but the timing isn't right. And this scenario repeats several times throughout the book. They each go their separate ways, but tend to stay in touch. It took me awhile to realize the entire book is almost like a letter written to Gabe from Lucy about their relationship. Without giving up any spoilers, at the end you figure out why. I felt like it was a great book, but the end left me feeling kind of "unfinished" if that makes sense. I hate when there are loose ends I want to know about. But, even weeks later I'm still thinking about it so that's telling enough. :)

Did you read The Light We Lost? Am I the only one who felt this way?

After two semi-heavier books I opted for something a little lighter. Someone suggested to me the Wedding Date and it was just what I was looking for. Alexa and Drew end up getting stuck in an elevator of a hotel for a short time, and somehow Alexa agrees to help Drew out and be his last minute date to a wedding he is in. The wedding of his ex. From there the story takes off. Disclaimer: parts of it are a little naughty, but overall it is a funny and light read. The story is adorable and it would make for the perfect vacation read if you are headed out somewhere for Spring Break.

WHAT'S UP NEXT...

CARRIE BETH
My mother-in-law gave me a book that my sister-in-law had given her and told me I had to read it.  Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris sort of sounds like a similar story to The Last Mrs. Parish that I loved so much, but my mother-in-law said it was even better!

I'm so exited to delve into this book because y'all know I love a page turner and those kinds of books that keep me up at night because I just have to know what happens.

JEN

I've got nothing. I've scoured my suggested books in my Kindle and nothing is really jumping out at me.

Help me out! Have you read anything good lately? I need something to LOVE!

5 Healthy Snacking Tips for Toddlers

Toddlers are snacking machines. Having raised three toddlers now, I figure that equates to approximately 1,450, 346 snacks that I've dished out. As a parent I've realized that snacking just comes with the territory. So I roll with it, and I've been known a time or two to sneak a bite of their snack myself.  The hard part is keeping all that constant snacking healthy. We are always on the go, whether at home or traveling, and while it can be easy to just grab whatever, I've realized we all feel our best when we follow healthier snacking routines.

Toddler snacking was a recent conversation in my mommy group. One mom noticed the Happy Tot Whole Milk Yogurt Pouches I was feeding the girls on the sidelines of the playground, and asked me about them. She was stunned to see they were pouches of yogurt. Most of the mommies in my group had never seen yogurt available in a pouch before and were so excited. Because as toddler snacking pros we all know anything that can come in pouch form is just plain awesome.

As the conversation progressed, we all chatted about our snacking little machines and what their favorite snacks were. One common theme amongst us all was how difficult it seemed for us all to find healthy snacks that were easy to pack on the go, and were ones that the toddlers actually wanted to eat. I was already winning by introducing Happy Tot Whole Milk Yogurt Pouches to the mix. They are USDA Organic certified, and are made without any added sweeteners. Because - let's be honest - the less sweetener in a toddler's diet the better (particularly my high energy bunch). I stumbled upon them in the refrigerated sections of our Publix (click here to see if they are available at your local grocery store retailer), and now it's one of the most requested snacks to pack from the girls.

We exchanged ideas, snack recipes, and tips for keeping snacking a little healthier for our tiny tots. Some tips and suggestions seemed to be recurring, and after putting several into practice myself, I definitely see how these healthy little improvements can help facilitate better eating habits later in life (I might need to practice a few of these myself for now!)

5 HEALTHY SNACKING TIPS FOR TODDLERS

Balance - You know to eat a well balanced diet when it  comes to meals. The same mentality should apply to snacks. Instead of always grabbing the same crackers or the same puff cereal, try to make sure you pack a variety of options.

Portion Control - Eating too much of a good thing...well, that can lead to bad things. Even if you are offering your toddler healthier snacking options, make sure they are being offering eating portions appropriate for their tiny size. This is an easy way to ensure your toddler is eating the correct amounts as well as not interfering with next meal.

Timing - Timing is everything, even when it comes to toddler snacking. Timing snacks accurately helps establish great eating habits beyond the toddler years. A good rule of thumb seems to be getting toddlers to eat every two to three hours, and timing snack time to land somewhere between each larger meals. The more structured snack routines will help toddlers self regulate with food as they get older.

Avoid Snack Rewards - This by far was the most controversial tip amidst our conversation. I am so guilty of using snacks as a reward for good behavior or a bribe to get The Cutes to do something I need them to do. Many moms stated this was a bad practice and emphasized using stickers or something else would be better in the long run. Unless you reward with vegetables. If broccoli is a coveted rewards snack in your house, then by all means continue on!

Present Healthy Options -  It's no secret that toddlers like choices. When on the go or at the house, when snack time occurs, present your toddlers with a few different options. Dictate what kind of snacks will get packed, but then let them decide what they want from the snack bag. This helps the toddlers express their need for independence and lay the ground work for healthier eating habits later in life.

Such great tips and so easy to incorporate into our daily routines's without too much extra effort, money or time. I love when moms come together to share great advice. Even the third time around I learn so many amazing to tips and techniques to wade my way through this little life we call motherhood.

What are some tips and tricks you have for getting toddlers to establish healthier snacking habits? Do they have a favorite snack? Share with us!
