Lately we have been on a whirlwind tour of fun holiday events. Before we get into that though, we first want to congratulate our winner from the Holiday Book Giveaway.
Congrats Janet!!!
Janet said her favorite thing about the holidays is "... is getting to see my oldest daughter who lives out of state (and across the country!). This is the only time each year we get to see her and we cherish every minute she's in town!"
We had marked last weekend to complete our holiday lights tradition. Since Cute's first Christmas we have been visiting a local lights show called Lights of Life. This year, I was so excited to learn that Carrie Beth and her family as well as another friend and family were going to join us last minute. I look forward to this tradition every year and was so excited because this year both my little ones would be into it.
Well, it was an interesting experience to say the least. Traffic was crazy and what normally would take about 20-30 minutes to drive through took about two hours. Under normal conditions this would be less than desirable, but being trapped in a car for two hours with six littles hopped up on christmas cookies and marshmallows with nothing stronger than hot cocoa available to drink was taking it to a whole other level.
I still had fun, but I think 99% of the rest of the car could have tapped out at thirty minutes in. Next year we know...don't go on a Saturday night at peak season. :)
On a cheerier note, Cute had several fun events at his school last week, and his Christmas program was just darling! His performance skills are entertaining to say the least. While he tended to divert from the program slightly and occasionally came up with his own interpretive dance, this year he didn't ride the donkey in the manger scene mid-program and that, my friends, should be applauded.
We were all about some Polar Express this past week too. We watched the movie for the first time a few weeks ago and Cute fell in love. He has requested it almost every single day, and I was so excited to learn that our local Chick-fil-a was planning to host a themed event.
The event was adorable! Everything inside the building was decorated to reflect the movie. They had trains set up for rides, story times to read the book, a cookie and hot chocolate station, and free professional photos taken with Santa Cow. They even gave the children little bells to take home from Santa just as they did in the book/movie. It was so much fun, and I am always impressed with how well Chick-fil-a goes above and beyond for an event.
The Polar Express fun didn't end there, though. On Friday, Cute's class also had a Polar Express Party planned and he was so excited to wear his PJs to school. He was even more excited when he learned upon his arrival that his best friend in the class chose to wear the exact same PJs for the day. They were so cute showing me they matched during pick-up.
The highlight of our week had to have been when we got a direct call from the North Pole. Cute was beside himself when he realized he was face timing with Santa!
A co-worker of my husband's sent him the information about Hello Santa, and once reading about it we thought it was a great idea! There are several different options to choose from, but we chose to sign up for a live video call. You email Santa a small questionnaire to let him know a few personal things about your child and if there is anything he/she needs to work on, and Santa tries to incorporate those things into the phone call. Our call was about ten minutes long and then they sent us the entire video a few days later. Cute loved it, and it was definitely entertaining hearing him speak to Santa.
To finish off our week we snuggled on the couch and watched a few of our favorite Christmas movies...Home Alone and ELF. Those two never get old.
Up next I am saving the best for last...National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. :)
Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend and here's to the kick start of this fun holiday week!
