Book Club: July

We can't believe it is already July.  Part of us is excited because we love the 4th of July and all of the fun that comes along with it.  Part of us is sad though because it means our summer break is already half-way over. It does mean we have some extra opportunities for reading though, so we can't wait to share our picks with you this month!

WHAT WE READ...

CARRIE BETH
When I traveled to North Carolina for my cousin's wedding last month I finally had some time to read and picked up The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena.

I'd had several people recommend it to me and it was such a page turner...my favorite kind of book.  It grabbed my attention from the very first chapter and I was constantly reading to try to find out what happened.  Without giving too much away, a baby goes missing and fingers are pointed in every direction trying to solve the mystery. The plot takes some twists and turns I didn't expect, but made it that much more fun to read.  I read it in just a few days and would definitely recommend it!

This month I thought I would have a lot more time to read, but without carpool and kids activities in my life it seems my reading time has dwindled. And I'm not complaining about it because #SUMMER!!!  I did have a few trips in June so when I wasn't passing around 1,000 snacks, and yelling at kids to please stop touching each other, I was able to sneak in some reading time.

My go-to choices were both off of our Summer Reading List we shared in last month's book club. First up I grabbed When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger.

This book is the third installment of the Devil Wear Prada series. It follows the character Emily and her life post magazine - all though some of the old characters make fun cameos. Emily some how finds herself with an old friend in the suburbs of Connecticut and becomes immersed in a world of Lululemon clad, Tito's drinking ladies. She meets up with former super model Karolina and their mutual friend Miriam to try to figure out why exactly Karolina, who doesn't drink, got pulled over for a DUI. The story is hilarious and has a few little life lessons sprinkled in. It was such a fun vacation read, and even if you didn't read the first two in the series, you won't be lost.

The second book, I actually saved so I could read it at the beach. I love Mary Kay Andrews' novels. They are usually set in the South and sprinkle in some of our favorite landmarks and restaurants. She is hilarious and her books are always so fun. The High Tide Club follows young, single mother Brooke as she navigates life with a two year old little boy and her new law practice. One day she gets a call from a 99 year old heiress to come to her private 20,000 acre island. Brooke is tasked with finding the heiress' oldest friends so she can rework her will. Throw in a murder, a long lost love or two, and some hilarious characters and you have The High Tide Club. It makes for a fun and quick read and one I would definitely pack in my beach bag.

WHAT'S UP NEXT...

CARRIE BETH
We are getting ready to head out of town next week and I have high hopes of getting some reading time in. I have two books on my reading list for this month.

First up is a book Jen just read...When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger.

I also saw this book recommend by another blogger and she said she read it in less than 24 hours so I figured it must be a good one.

The other book I really want to read is Educated which is a memoir written by Tara Westover.

She was born to Survivalist parents in the mountains of Idaho.  She never saw a doctor or nurse during her childhood, nor did she ever see a classroom.  This memoir tells her story of deciding she wants a different kind of life for herself and how she want about doing that.  My mom told me she could not put this book down and loved it, so I can't wait to read it!

It wouldn't be summer if I didn't read a little something from Elin Hilderbrand. I've already got downloaded and ready to go on my Kindle her latest novel - The Perfect Couple

We both have beach trips this month - anything else we need to pack in our beach bags? What good books have you read lately?
